Paper/Coating Engineer
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for providing paper development, paper coating, and process engineering support to the Ink/Media research and development team. The primary focus of this position is to define, develop, and introduce paper and paper coating solutions for the Versamark printing systems. Additionally the individual will define the paper properties needed to produce acceptable printed products that can be successfully handled in post processing equipment. The individual will have a working knowledge of paper manufacturing, paper properties, and coating processes. They will have an expertise in paper coating formulations with some experience in inkjet coatings. Experience with paper handling, sheeting and inserting is also desired. The engineer will work hands on in the laboratory, on paper coating equipment, with customers, paper vendors, outside research organizations, universities, and equipment suppliers to optimize papers and coating systems for these papers. They will be expected to spend up to 50% of their time in the laboratory formulating coatings, scaling up these coatings and evaluating their performance. It is expected that this position will have up to 20% travel. PRIORITIZED SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 8 years experience in paper coating, paper development and testing. Experience in digital printing preferable. B.S or M.S. in Paper Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science. Experimental Design, Project Management Organizational Agility - Ability to work with team members of other disciplines and levels: Engineers, Physicists & Technicians. Good oral and written communication skills. Project and team leadership skills. QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL B.S. EDUCATION MAJOR PAPER SCIENCE, CHEM or CHEM ENGINEER MINIMUM YEARS EXPERIENCE 8 Years EXPERIENCE (ESSENTIAL) PAPER COATING, PAPERMAKING EXPERIENCE (DESIRABLE) DIGITAL PRINTING, PROJECT MANAGEMENT
