Globecommsystems Inc. is currently accepting applications for a Network Engineer II for our Savage, MD office:



Position DutiesAssist in administering and maintaining all production and other mission critical technology resourcesImplement hardware and software upgrades, system integrations, vendor-based solutions, and other datacenter optimizationsUpdate network documentation after replacing or installing new equipmentInstallation and Maintenance of network cable plantMonitor and resolve assigned customer trouble tickets and provide third-level application / engineering support in a timely fashionMaintain relevant and current knowledge within assigned technical fieldsCommunicate and interact with the team members to ensure coordination and cross-trainingRecommend new processes, procedures, equipment, and softwarePerform research and develop documentation for support and educational purposes

 

Unique Knowledge & Skills

RequiredThorough knowledge of TCP/IP Protocol. Working knowledge of IP routing protocols (IGP & EGP), IP subnetting, and ability to design and deploy IP solutions.Thorough knowledge of IP Telephony, Voice over IP (VOIP), and IP Video Teleconferencing.  Must possess the ability to support and merge multi-vendor solutions.Must have a thorough understanding of Cisco and Juniper Routers and Switches.Familiarization with VPN/IPSec technologies and firewalls.Working knowledge of telecommunications transmissions; i.e. DS-X, OC-X, MPLS, DIA, ISDN etc.Good deductive reasoning skills including the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to come up with logical answers involving deciding if an answer makes senseExcellent communication skills to professionally and effectively deal with customer issues. Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks under time constraints.Good communication skills, excellent work ethic, dependability & able to efficiently follow oral & written instructionsCCNA w/ 5-8 years progressive work experienceThe ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance. Candidates with current clearance preferred and will be given higher priority.

PreferredGeneral technical knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control & operation of telecommunication systemsCCNP or equivalent industry certificationAssociates Degree in a related fieldBackground in math, science, & computers
