Mechanical Drafter / Engineer I

We are currently looking for a Process Engineer with experience in a medical device environment.  This person will be responsible for technical support to the AE/Visitec Value Stream and providing process expertise for key plant technologies especially laser cutting and etching processes used in the fabrication of silicon wafers. Establishes operating equipment specifications, improves manufacturing techniques, specifies and introduces new process equipment to production.  Plan and manage capital projects to ensure that the above responsibilities are achieved within projected costs and timelines. Supports operations to ensure continuity of production with minimum delay. Will work closely with Product Development Engineers, Quality Engineers and Production personnel to produce quality products effectively at minimum cost.  This position reports to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.Strategic Impact/Accountability - Process cost, quality and delivery, capital budgets. Sphere of Influence (liaison) - Processes they support.  Interface with Direct Labor, Indirect Labor, Plant Staff. Required Skills and Knowledge - Knowledge of the manufacturing processes they support.  Minimum of a B.S. in an Engineering discipline (preferably Mechanical Engineering) with at least 5 years of experience, preferably in a medical device environment. Basic knowledge of statistics is required; however, higher levels of expertise and certification as a six sigma green or black belt in process or design is preferred. Familiarity with machine automation, design of experiments and installation and performance validations is desirable. Good project management skills are very desirable.  Technical Area of Expertise – Mechanical and chemical processes used in the fabrication of silicon wafers and stainless steels used in surgical instruments such as knives and cannula. Familiarity with automated mechanical processes used to form and assemble hybrid stainless steel/plastic products such as cannula. Degree of Accountability (discretion/supervision) – Will direct project team members (technicians and other engineers), production personnel. Financial Impact - Potential for loss of throughput for a period of time.  This could affect financial performance for the plant related to that period of time. Potential for budget variances if capital projects are not completed on time. Decision Making - Decisions can influence daily production quantity and quality and can influence success or failure of plant financial objectives.
