Our client located in the Cleveland Ohio area has an immediate opening for a Switch Engineer.   Job Description

 

Title: Switch Engineer 

 

Reports to: Fixed Network Engineering Manager

 

 

 Engineer, monitor and provision capacity for CDMA technology PCS network based on RF additions, new features, vendor enhancements, trunking, and utilization requirements.  Determine the impact of additions on all switch hardware components.  Maintain inventory of all physical and logical components affecting capacity.  Work with vendors to prepare RFQ’s, understand new features and manage growth projects.  Additionally, the Engineer will act as the subject matter expert within Network Engineering, a designated escalation point for Network Operations.  Manage floor and rack space inventory.  Provide engineering services and assists in project management functions required to develop and implement a regional wireless network.

Qualifications

 

· BS/BA Technical/Engineering Degree or equivalent telecom experience.

· 2-4 years of responsible industry experience in network operations or engineering.

· Detail oriented in constructing engineering plans.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Self-motivated to learn new technology and its application in a fast-paced environment.

· Proven Nortel switch provisioning and translations experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

· Responsible for maintaining a positive team oriented environment within the workplace.

· Design and manage implementation of growth and load balancing within the MSC.

· Design translations for Nortel switches.

· Manage Central Office space for internal and external customers (Central Office Planning).

 

· Track the progress of switch construction to ensure vendor timelines are achieved.

· Develop MOP’s (Methods of Procedure) for company switches.

· Monitor reports from capacity planning to ensure concerns from a switching perspective are met.

· Establish and implement recovery plans when required to comply with scheduled commitments.
