Hydraulic Engineer Team LeadDescription: Job Summary:The Team Lead (TL) works on the customer's premises and is the primary supervisory and technical support person for a team of Volt hydraulic development engineering technicians for the conducting of technical investigations of current and future products, components, materials and processes in field environments. The TL will also be an individual contributor with responsibility to coordinate moderately complex technical tasks with minimal guidance.Job Description:Provide leadership to a team of up to 10 Volt DTS Field employees to deliver the job role and objectives defined in the Volt Hydraulic Systems Development Engineering Technician job description. As team leader, the incumbent will provide training, day to day work direction, coaching, mentoring and feedback to direct reports as well as handle employee issues. The team leader will also be the primary interface with the Caterpillar engineers to manage workload and insure timely completion of tasks to support project plans. The TL will also be an individual contributor, with the level of contribution dependent on team size.Key areas of responsibility of the team includes:" Coordinate shop support for machine modifications prior to testing" Insure all parts and components are available prior to the machine going into the shop for modifications" Assist instrumentation group while machine is being instrumented" Insure machine is ready to be tested when scheduled" Coordinate field test resources, test area preparations, machine operators and other facility support activities" Record and compile data in preparation for communication results to team members, customers and business units" Provide observations and input to product design and processes" Organize the teardown of tested components and subsystems for post-test evaluationThe team lead will have direct contact with machines and components, including working with instrumentation and data acquisition systems. The testing will be performed in the field. The team leader will continuously learn through experience and staying abreast of technology changes, and will also manage the team education in these areas. Learning focuses on methods and processes applied to engineering functions, practical application of technical skills, communications and building knowledge of customer's products. Work could be on all shifts or an alternate shift format yet to be determined.This position requires the TL to possess the technical knowledge to provide a high level of support and expertise for the Hydraulic Systems Development area. This position also requires strong leadership skills to drive a team of employees to produce the expected daily output and quality of service as defined by the customer. This position typically spends at least 25% of their time supervising, and the balance would be spent performing the job requirements of the group they are supervising. Requirements: Job Requirements:" Requires a BSME or BSMFG or an accredited technical Associates degree with relevant experience." A combination of education and technical knowledge which includes 3-5 years experience on mobile equipment in a field that qualifies the TL to perform at a high level in working with Hydraulic and Electrohydraulic Components and/or systems." The applicant will need to have computer skills (MSword, Excel and Powerpoint) and will need to be able to learn customer specific computer applications as needed. " Must have good written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated leadership skills." Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills" NFPA certification is highly desired." Working knowledge of data analysis and data acquisition systems (such as LabView) and pressure/flow/temperature instrumentation is highly desired."
