HVAC MEP Mechanical Engineer
Houston Texas Defense Contractor has an immediate opening for a MEP Mechanical Engineer to join their staff. The position is long term contract with the chance of direct hire after 520 hours (90 days). Candidates must hold a BSME and have at least 3 years of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC Experience. Candidates must be a US Citizen for security reasons.
Position Performs the duties of a Mechanical and Plumbing Engineer as it relates to HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, duct sizing and layout, piping sizing and layout, including, but not limited to plumbing, chilled water, heating water, steam, condensate, gas, compressed air, vacuum, lab gases, fire sprinklers etc. Designs mechanical and plumbing systems using manual and computer based techniques, meeting the latest requirements of Codes, facility standards, industry standards, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Drafts and produces mechanical drawings and specifications for new and existing systems using MicroStation CAD system.
*Meets with customers and Project Managers to review scope of work and job site for constructability.
*Produces detailed Scope of Work for approval prior to design phase.
*Provides input to design team during scope development and design phase.
*Reviews all design packages produced by outside consultants.
*Produces final mechanical and plumbing construction designs and drafts construction documents (drawings and specifications) as needed.
*Oversees drafting and design work of mechanical designers/drafters.
*Coordinates, reviews and provides input on drawings created by associates (architectural, structural, and electrical) as part of the construction package.
*Provides assistance during construction phase to solve any issues that arise. Provides revisions and/or perform field walks to solve the issues.
*Provides mentoring and education to designers and associates on how to create more cost effective designs.
*Keeps up with latest design codes, government facility standards. Keeps up with the latest methods and techniques available to the industry to provide efficient and cost effective designs.
Possesses the following:
*Ability to perform computer based hvac load calculations.
*Possess knowledge of different equipment in order to make necessary independent selections.
*Possess solid knowledge of Mechanical, and Plumbing trades (control systems and fire protection knowledge is a plus).
*Ability to use computers and drafting software efficiently as well as use word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheet software for communication and data input.
*Ability to work on several projects and tasks on a daily basis.
*Ability to read, interpret, and communicate information.
*Possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
*Ability to work with work associates, outside consultants, government agencies, etc. in a prompt and courteous manner.
Requirements
Minimum competency requirements include a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from accredited institution (Professional Engineer's License is not required), a minimum of five years of progress experience in designing and drafting of various mechanical systems in the HVAC and Plumbing fields, including use of AutoCAD or similar Cad Drafting program (MicroStation preferred).
