Geologist
Environmental Design International inc. (EDI) is a full-service minority and woman-owned, licensed, professional engineering firm offering civil and environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, surveying, and information technology services. The firm is headquartered in Chicago, with service offices in the St. Louis Metro Area and Ohio.
EDI is currently looking for an environmental scientist or geologist to join our Chicago Environmental Department to support environmental projects for private and government clients.
This is a junior level position, and the successful candidate will be responsible for completing technical tasks associated with site investigation and management (characterization, assessment and remediation of contaminated media at hazardous and solid waste sites) projects. These tasks would include a mixture of field work, data evaluation and report writing responsibilities.
Key responsibilities would include:
1) Planning and implementing field investigations (writing and preparation of work plans and sampling plans, coordination with subcontractors, logging of boreholes, sampling of environmental media, installation and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells);
2) Leading field teams and subcontractors, emphasizing health and safety as well as technical quality;
3) Analyzing and interpreting geologic, hydrogeologic and environmental chemistry data; and
4) Writing and preparation of reports, developing presentations and other technical documents.
The successful candidate must be proficient in Microsoft software applications, and have experience working with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. The individual should also be well organized, detail-oriented, be able to follow instructions and be able to communicate with staff to understand assignments or seek clarification if necessary. The individual should have the attributes to become a strong consultant (team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self starter that takes initiative, versatile, and has a service mentality).
The successful candidate will have the ability to learn quickly, analyze problems and assess alternative solutions, and organize multiple projects with an emphasis on quality and reliability.
Minimum Requirements:
* BS degree in Geology or Environmental science (with geology emphasis).
* 4-7 years of experience in the field with an environmental consulting firm.
* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to communicate effectively with project managers, project teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
* Experience in sampling a variety of environmental media.
* Ability to log soils, install borings/monitoring wells, write reports on field efforts, collection of samples from a variety of media, and interpret field data.
* 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training.
Special Consideration to those individuals having the following:
* State licensure as an asbestos inspector or project manager/ air sampling professional.
