GIS SPECIALIST JOB SUMMARY: Daily activity may include data management, map production, spatial analysis, and Access database development. Responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance and management of GIS applications using the suite of ESRI products. Candidates must be knowledgeable with ESRI software product ArcGIS and related extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst). This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience developing GIS applications and customizing ESRI software using ArcObjects, Avenue, AML, Visual Basic or JavaScript programming languages and knowledge of ArcIMS, ArcSDE, ArcEngine, ArcServer, and ArcView 3.x, and Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) is a plus. May support other office activities related to environmental engineering consulting operations such as client interactions, preparation of statements of qualifications, presentations and proposals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. · Develop GIS projects and support development of internal and external applications. · Use database software to update, edit, and extract tabular data for integration into GIS. · Perform data queries and spatial analysis as required. · Ability to work on and prioritize a variety of technical assignments and complete work satisfactorily and on schedule. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, the GIS Analyst will, as part of a team of environmental consulting professionals, be responsible for providing GIS consulting services to a variety of internal and external clients. Daily activity may include data management, map production, spatial analysis, and Access database development. The candidate must be able to work under pressure of deadlines and to work overtime as needed. High expectations for quality and speed under minimal supervision are required. An environmental background and familiarity with AutoCad and graphics applications is a plus. A current security clearance (e.g., DOD, DOE) is also a plus. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university or equivalent experience in Geographic Information Systems. A minimum of 1-3 years experience with ArcGIS, ArcView, ArcInfo, CAD and MS Access/VBA. An environmental background and familiarity with AutoCad and graphics applications is a plus. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of IBM-compatible computers and Microsoft Windows/Office software applications required. Individual must have ample organizational skills, ability to manage time-critical situations in order to fulfill deadline requirements, and strong ability to work in team situations. Ability to search for pertinent facts and data, analyze and evaluate information, and form accurate conclusions. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as databases, field notes, and/or tables. Ability to write clear and concise sections of technical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with coworkers, internal project managers, and external clients. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
