Engineer System
PURPOSE: Responsible for Microsoft Windows infrastructure and Active Directory design and engineering solutions in a large enterprise environment (150+ Servers). Primary duties will include managing and supporting Microsoft Windows environment design, Active Directory services, Windows Server OS, Solaris Unix, Web Proxy and Enterprise backup solution.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement Server management tools and techniques to provide warnings of potential problems and alarms of inoperative equipment. Proactively manage all server hardware to maximize operating efficiency and uptime.
• Provide management reports on Server hardware performance.
• Perform basic Unix administration to support ACSR application.
• Install and manage hardware components such as servers, proxy servers, server backup devices etc.
• Document Server hardware, configuration, etc.
• Monitor and manage scheduled and unscheduled system backups and recovery, and vault storage of backups.
• Monitor and manage disk usage.
• Monitor and manage server software licenses.
• Apply vendor-supplied patches as needed.
• Monitor systems security including virus protection, firewalls, permissions, file security, passwords, web proxy rules etc.
• Use Help Desk Work Order Application to keep Help Desk representatives informed of network issues and to establish early detection routines for network congestion or downtime.
• Maintain working knowledge of current Systems technology and all other information required to keep abreast of relevant developments within a rapidly changing technical landscape.
• Train other IT personnel to support and administer the basic Systems functionality.
• Participate in an established on call rotation
• Work outside of normal business hours when required (scheduled maintenance, outage response, last minute urgent requests)
• Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Expertise with Windows 2000/2003 server architecture and OS fundamentals. Expertise with designing and implementing a large, distributed enterprise Microsoft Active Directory environment. Five or more years experience managing a Veritas Netbackup Multi-Site Environment. Five or more years experience with current enterprise Tape Library Environment Technologies (Virtual Tape Library experience is desired). Solaris Unix administration and troubleshooting running on SUN hardware. Expertise designing and implementing enterprise-level Windows server automated provisioning including tools such as Altiris, Jumpstart or Microsoft RIS. Ability to provide technical leadership in the testing and integration of various essential and high visibility projects. Expertise with Windows core services, including DNS, DHCP, WINS, RRAS, Radius, etc. Working knowledge of Windows security fundamentals (SCM, WSUS, NAP, IPSEC, GPO management). Experience with issues around enterprise Software Deployment and Patch Management (i.e. HF NET Checkpro, SMS, TCM, BigFix). Experience with Windows NT/2000/2003 full-time administration and server management. TCP/IP network topology understanding, to include TCP, UDP, IPSec, CIFS, DFS and other networking protocols. Experience with IBM (xSeries & Blade), DELL (PowerEdge), and HP (Proliant) hardware platforms. Advanced troubleshooting skills (packet analysis, AD replication, name resolution, GPO, AD delegation, etc). Experience with virtualization technologies (i.e. VMware, Microsoft Virtual Server, Citrix). Ability to write technical and operational management documentation (Solution proposals, System design and engineering documents, Change Proposals, and Deployment Readiness Reviews). Experience customizing the computer environment via GPO, login scripts, profiles, etc. Ability to communicate with all levels of customers, make presentations and speak confidently on technical and project issues. MCSE in Windows 2000/2003 or equivalent Knowledge. Must have proven ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as in a team environment. Requires strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Must be able and willing to keep abreast of new technology. Must have proven ability to work under pressure with many interruptions, manage several tasks simultaneously, work efficiently, and organize and prioritize tasks effectively. Requires current California driver’s license and good driving record. Requires travel to all Los Angeles Division locations.
