Duties and Responsibilities: The key activities of the Engineer/Sr. Engineer (Planning Development) include performing analysis to support planning studies and forecasts, coordinating system-wide planning efforts, and developing new information, methods, and tools for planning, risk analysis, and asset management.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Implements and maintains engineering analysis tools, such as ABB FeederAll and other internally developed and vendor-based applications for distribution planning, protection and reliability analysis. Provides software and database administration and end-user support.
-Develops advanced methods of retrieving and analyzing historical load data. Identifies opportunities for new technology to improve the distribution planning, protection and reliability work processes.
- Performs engineering and/or economic analyses to address specific issues related to the electric distribution system. Coordinates benchmarking and system studies that cross multiple areas and work groups.
- Responds to regulatory inquests concerning distribution system planning, design and capacity issues. Conducts periodic review of electric service rules and rate sheets and provides input to rate case filings.
- Coordinates development and revision of electric distribution planning, protection and reliability work procedures.
- Supports restoration efforts during escalated events (i.e. storms, hot weather, etc.) Performs outage analysis, verification and reporting duties.
Education and Experience Requirements: The Engineer/Sr. Engineer is expected to apply sound and diversified knowledge of distribution system engineering principles and practices as well as make independent decisions concerning assigned projects. Responsibilities will include training and provision of support to area engineering personnel. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and have demonstrated competence in electric distribution system engineering principles and practices. Registration as a Professional Engineer is desired. Applicants for this position must have strong analytical, communication, and team skills as well as the ability to identify creative solutions to complex and abstract issues. Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to use a variety of office and engineering software is required.
