Job Function
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of modular gasification systems to capture, convert and control the delivery of thermal and electrical energy derived from biomass fuels. The right candidate will have a working knowledge of the principles of energy conversion, engine systems, HVAC systems, and material handling systems.
Primary Responsibilities
The Design Engineer will have responsibility to:
· Design thermo-mechanical systems such as burners, incinerators, and gasifiers, that may include materials and moving parts that can withstand high temperatures.
· Design combined heat and power (CHP) systems for the capture and delivery of thermal energy, including components such as heat exchangers, chillers, radiators, thermostats, fans, blowers, pumps and valves.
· Design structures and mechanical devices to house and support a variety of subsystems connected with operation and maintenance activities.
· Design feed handling systems to convey, sort, and dry biomass feedstocks; these may include augers, conveyers and dryers.
· Identify and specify commercial materials, components and hardware for the ongoing development and commercialization of CPC’s line of biomass powered CHP (combined heat and power) systems.
· Work with and vendors/subcontractors to obtain the most appropriate components, delivery schedules and prices.
· Work with in house CAD designers to produce high quality modeling and fabrication drawing packages.
· Support systems integration and testing and of various components and subsystems, including engines, generators, motors, sensors, transducers, valves, actuators, feed mechanisms, control systems, etc.
· Support the construction, fabrication and assembly of pre-commercial prototypes of CPC’s bio-energy products with contract or in-house fabricators.
· Schedule, plan and report task status, and coordinate design and manufacturing efforts to ensure the highest product quality and on-time delivery and installation.
· Work with in house electronics and controls engineers to develop and integrate mechanical systems with fully embedded controls systems.
· Participate in field surveys and installations of products and conduct on-going field support to customers as required.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
· 4-8 years of product engineering design experience
· proficient in 3D CAD modeling; Autocad Inventor strongly preferred
· experience in the design, building, and testing of packaged power systems
· strong background in electromechanical design principles
· hands on knowledge and troubleshooting skills in mechanical and HVAC design
· working knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamics
· ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work at deliberate pace toward achievement of objectives
· ability to deliver projects on time, with high quality, and within budget.
· excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· proven ability to interface with customers
· ability to function and interact as a team leader and team player
· willingness to try new ideas
· ability to test hypotheses and derive experimental results in a controlled setting
· ability to travel in support of field surveys or installations
