Design Engineer I
POSITION: Design Engineer I Location: Dulles, VA THIS POSITION REPORTS TO: Principal Engineer SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: NonePOSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: To assist with the design of HVAC systems. PRIMARY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Assists Senior Engineers in design tasks as required. • Performs basic deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, and specifications related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems under supervision of Senior Engineers. • Perform basic calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection, and sizing, pipe and duct sizing, friction loss calculations, etc. • Assist in coordinating all aspects of the project design with project management, architects, and other trades through the completion phase of a project. • Perform and check CADD drafting work. • Review applicable codes and criteria and examine field conditions as required to support design of project.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of HVAC design to include types of equipment utilized in the industry as well as general understanding of system operations (i.e. variable air, constant volume, refrigeration cycle.) Ability to communicate with all levels of management, including project management and field trades. Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans. Competent with general business writing. Has competency in basic computer skills to include CADD and Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel.) EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, E.I.T. certificate desirable; 0-3 years experience in related field. Completion of classes in Thermodynamics and HVAC Design is highly desirable.PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including CAD drawings, Blueprints, Submittals, etc. • Ability to work at a computer terminal with mouse and keyboard for several hours per day. • Ability to visit job construction areas and climb stairs, maneuver in and around pipe work and air ducts and work safely in close proximity to construction materials and equipment.
