Data Analyst I
DATA ANALYST I, Broad Institute, to participate in the fungal genome initiative, with responsibility for providing support for analyses and genome structural and expression variation using standard and in-house developed (UNIX-based) analytic software. Will perform whole genome alignments using existing alignment tools, including BLAST, NUCmer, and patternhunter; align Solexa sequence data using MAQ and other in-house software developed for analyses; prepare datasets of expression for analysis by merging data files and segregating out subsets of samples for analysis; coordinate receipt of datasets and upload into the central database; curate and manage data following its receipt from experimental platforms; write code as needed to support research activities in assembling datasets; and perform other tasks as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: a B.S. or B.A. in biology, computer science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent analytical skills and ability to understand and process biological information and data; and experience using bioinformatics tools. Must be able to work with the UNIX operating system and program using Perl, UNIX, SQL, or other language to support activities. Should be able to make guided, independent decisions and identify data issues, present problems, and implement solutions. Must be capable of communicating technical concepts clearly, concisely, and understandably to nonstatistical colleagues. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously required.
