Central Utilities Power Plant-Shift Operations Supervisor
CENTRAL UTILITIES POWER PLANT'SHIFT OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR, Facilities-Power Plant, to oversee and assume responsibility for all operational activities on assigned shift including planning, organizing, and directing shift operations to assure that plant reliability, safety, and environmental requirements are met. Will ensure proper watch-standing and record keeping by shift personnel; carry out MIT policies and practices; assist in establishing plant operating configuration and equipment selection for plant loads based on availability, efficiency, and reliability; ensure work is performed in a safe and responsible manner; assist chief and assistant chief engineer in preparing reports, reviewing procedures, and investigating operating incidents and abnormalities; generate equipment maintenance work requests; maintain strong communications with watch standers and plant managers; manage safety, LOTO, and confined-space entry programs; interact with outside agencies, i.e., MWRA, DEP, and NSTAR; monitor water treatment status and direct necessary corrective action; be responsible for wastewater discharge permit compliance; maintain utilities services within prescribed guidelines and in the most efficient manner; and handle related assignments.
REQUIREMENTS: a Massachusetts' second class stationary engineer's license; eight to ten years' directly related experience in a power plant; demonstrated knowledge of operations and maintenance tasks, generating equipment, fuel handling, and labor and cleaning functions; knowledge of various auxiliary controls related to steam, chill water, and cogeneration; demonstrated knowledge of boiler and turbine operations in a power plant environment; two years of supervisory experience and willingness to attend supervisory and management training; and strong written and verbal communication skills. MIT-00005814-P The schedule is Wednesday through Saturday, 1:30 to 11:30 P.M. Must be flexible enough to work any and all shifts for planned maintenance and emergencies. 9/4/08
