Budget Officer

BUDGET OFFICER, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF), to be responsible for the detailed preparation of operating budgets for several departments and/or schools, analysis and financial studies of issues that affect academic and research programs, maintenance of master data in SAP, and assisting colleagues with various administrative functions as needed. Will prepare, consolidate, and monitor annual operating budgets; evaluate budget vs. actual performance to identify issues and propose recommendations for correction and control; provide advice and guidance on MIT budgeting policies to ensure proper and consistent application; maintain budgets to reflect changes during the fiscal year; assist departmental administrators during the fiscal year closing; perform master data changes for cost centers; and serve as point of contact for and maintain effective relationships with MIT constituents, including establishing effective working relationships with VPF Accounting Services, the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Provost's Office, and the Office of the Executive Vice President. Will receive general supervision from the director and assistant director of budget, finance, and treasury.

REQUIREMENTS: three plus years of experience in budgeting, accounting, or financial analysis; a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; excellent analytical and written and oral communication skills; and ability to keep colleagues and clients informed. Strong teamwork orientation needed, including an understanding of the work of other team members, an awareness of deliverables and deadlines, and a willingness to cooperate in the fulfillment of joint objectives. Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required. Experience with SAP, BrioQuery, SQL, and Access preferred. MIT-00005771-N 8/20/08
