Assistant Dean for Finance

ASSISTANT DEAN FOR FINANCE, School of Science, to serve as a senior administrative leader in the areas of finance, sponsored research, and business services in collaboration with the school's associate dean and assistant deans. Will provide high-level advice and counsel regarding finance and budget, faculty administration, research administration, and other business-related policy matters; oversee resource management and monitor annual spending; direct the annual budget planning process; prepare complex financial and management analyses and studies; establish effective metrics to measure performance and present findings; maintain sound fiscal and administrative practices that are in compliance with external sponsors and donors and Institute policies and procedures; develop, recommend, and implement financial, operational, and administrative policies and practices; oversee and monitor all facets of sponsored research and gift administration; represent the dean in deliberations/negotiations associated with research proposals, gifts, contracts, and other initiatives; manage and control the allocation and use of endowment funds and discretionary resources; and perform other duties as directed.

REQUIREMENTS: a master's degree and six to eight years of appropriate experience or a bachelor's degree and ten years' experience in all aspects of university administration in a management role; excellent analytical, financial, and writing skills; advanced knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and sponsored research administration; working knowledge of the principles and practices of strategic planning, development, and evaluation; demonstrated organizational skills; good judgment, tact, discretion when handling sensitive and confidential matters; ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities; and advanced knowledge of databases and spreadsheets. MIT experience strongly preferred, with knowledge of its financial, human resources, and operational systems highly desirable. MIT-00005655-R 7/28/08
