9314 - Senior Firmware Engineer
In this position you will work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team to develop operating firmware for embedded processors that control and monitor solid state lasers. Design complexity varies depending on the type of laser and its application. Often this involves adapting existing code to a new optical platform. You will also support both customers and operations with respect to identifying and fixing laser operational and/or manufacturing problems that are code-related in nature as well as with respect to finding software solutions to operational and/or manufacturing problems that are multidisciplinary in nature.This position will also involve the design and execution of rigorous software test and quality assurance (QA) practices.This position reports to the Director of Fiber Laser R&D for JDSU Commercial Lasers. Required Qualifications:o A successful candidate should have a BS or MS in EE or Computer Science or equivalent and at least 5 years direct firmware experience in embedded system design. o Proficiency in C is required. o Experience with development tools such as ICE, debugger, scope, source control software and bug tracking system is required. Desired Qualifications:o Familiarity with 8/16/32 bit embedded CPUs (8051, ARM, etc...) is highly desirable. o Strong aptitude toward software test & QA is highly desirable. o Familiarity with basic communication protocols (RS-232, SPI, etc.) is highly desirable. o Understanding of basic analog devices and circuits (op amps, comparators, ADCs, DACs, etc.) is highly desirable. o Knowledge of and practical design experience with software PID servos is highly desirable. o Familiarity with basic networking protocols is a plus. o Experience with soft-core, FPGA-embedded CPUs is a plus. o Basic understanding of lasers, and especially fiber lasers, is a plus.
