Vice President & General Manager
The Vice President & General Manager will have overall responsibility for the operation and success of the plant operation. As the primary representative before customers, community and business leaders, political bodies and regulatory agencies, the VP & GM will direct the activities of the Operations & Maintenance Contractor in negotiating annual changes in scope of work. The VP & GM will be responsible for providing budget justification to senior management for non-routine maintenance activities and capital projects. The VP & GM will report to the SVP Operations.
Scope & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the effectiveness of overall plant management which includes:
Customer Relations/Business Development:
· Manage and expand existing customer relationships, contracts and services both on the district energy facilities and beyond within the region
· Develop and market new energy and energy related products to position district energy and related products to competitively meet the needs of the community
Plant Operation:
· Ensure that the facility is maximized to plant capacity factor, availability, performance and efficiency
· Manage operating agreements, including environmental and governmental requirements in a clean, safe, efficient and cost effective manner
· Provide direction for the dispatch of heating cooling and electric generating equipment
· Collaborate with the Manager of Fuels for the procurement and delivery of fuel and electricity
Financial Reporting:
· Prepare annual operating plans, budgets, budget controls, and budget variances for the efficient management of the facility
· Monitor budget on monthly basis and long-term budget forecasts
Safety:
· Coordinate Risk Insurance, requirements and plant safety
· Review emergency response plans developed by the Operations and Maintenance Contractor
Human Resources:
· Sets objectives for the team; manage site personnel and performance of staff; make recommendations for merit increases and incentive pay.
· Administer Employee Policies and Procedures to all staff members
Executive Reporting/Local Communications:
· Communicate regularly with the SVP Operations for consultation, guidance and approvals
· Manager an ongoing relationship with elected officials, the local community and the regulatory community in coordination with senior management
· Monitor local regulatory and community activities for the purpose of anticipating changes that may affect the business
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering
· 10+ years’ experience in the Energy & Utilities industry with specific experience with district energy and utility power infrastructure
· 5 years’ recent experience supervising a staff in a district energy/steam production facilities
· P&L responsibility with thorough knowledge of accounting and financial management for district energy and power production facilities
· In-depth knowledge of the economics and technologies associated with the provision of district energy services.
· Highly developed leadership skills
· Excellent communications skills with the ability to interact with all levels of an energy organization, from operational management to senior leadership
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
· Master’s degree in engineering or MBA with the demonstrated ability to manage a district energy/steam production facility
