Technical Sourcing Specialist

Our client is experiencing tremendous international expansion within one of its key divisions, and is looking to add a Technical Sourcing Specialist to accommodate the growth.  This position is based in the Capital District.

 

You must be able to see the big picture and blend the overall business needs with the technical aspects of the position. Similarly, you will not be in a straight transactional role; you’ll need to demonstrate a full understanding of how the sourcing process impacts the organization and its goals.

 

 

 

Day to day responsibilities include:

▪ Significantly contribute to sourcing activity as it relates to product material requirements (supplier selection, quality, procurement, cost, performance evaluation, and CI).

▪ Drive supplier participation in cost-out and CI, solicit cost cutting proposals from supply chain and educate suppliers. Help incorporate cost cutting proposals.

▪ Develop alternative sources of supply for purchased materials to ensure that unit prices are globally cost/quality/delivery competitive; and that sufficient production capacity is available within the supply chain to sustain company growth projections.

▪ Investigate new technology and work as liaison between providers and internal engineering.

▪ Negotiate with suppliers to secure cost, quality, and delivery. Ensure competitive costs for materials to sustain financial and production objectives; execute purchase orders; interact with suppliers to insure that required materials delivery due dates are achieved.

▪ Assist in developing and implementing strategies to drive productivity, improve product quality, and ensure supply chain continuity.

▪ Resolve quality, delivery, and pricing issues and follow-up up with appropriate documentation to ensure uninterrupted supply materials.

▪ Creatively develop contracts which will help the company maximize cost savings.

 

The right individual will be a true self starter who is willing to jump in and do a little bit of everything to help progress the efforts of the supply chain group.  You must be a highly resourceful individual who is comfortable conducting industry research, finding new opportunities to source materials, and conducting SWOT analyses to identify these opportunities.

 

Finally, you must be highly service oriented.  It is essential to be able to partner and build strong relationships with suppliers and engineers.  You will be consistently representing the company so strong presentation skills and a professional demeanor are required.

 

Your performance will be, in part, measured by quarterly performance goals.

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

▪ B.S. in related engineering discipline or technical ability required.  An MBA is preferred.

▪ Minimum of 5 years sourcing experience in mechanical and/or electronic products

▪ Technically oriented to comprehend, translate and communicate product requirements

▪ Proven negotiation skills

▪ Demonstrate full understanding of technical product specifications

▪ International supply chain experience helpful

 

This position may entail up to 20% travel, with the likelihood of one international trip each year.
