Senior Structuring Analyst
The IBERDROLA RENEWABLES Senior Structuring Analyst may be located in Houston, Texas or Portland, Oregon.
The position is responsible for providing analytical support for Origination, Trading and Business Development within the Structuring & Market Analysis Group. Structuring evaluates all mid- to long-term transactions and is an integral part of the Company's various commercial teams engaged in asset development, origination activities, and gas and power trading. This position requires a high level of interaction with various internal departments and with external parties such as vendors and ISOs, and entails consensus building as well as defining a position on valuation issues given input from various entities and the candidate's own analysis.
This position will be dedicated primarily to analysis of Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) in all regions across the U.S., particularly as it relates to historical and/or prospective analysis of potential congestion costs at existing and proposed generation facilities. The candidate will be responsible for forecasting future congestion/transmission costs across multiple market areas in North America through the use of a third-party network dispatch model. In this role, the candidate will have sole responsibility for all aspects of the model, and will need to work closely with the development, origination, transmission, trading and structuring teams to price and analyze risks associated with future transmission and congestion on the grid and to offer strategies to mitigate these risks. Maintenance and verification of input assumptions to the model will be critical, and the candidate will need to possess extraordinary attention to detail as well as an ability to place this detail in the larger context. It will not be sufficient for the successful candidate merely to run the model and report the results, but rather to offer an expert opinion as to what the results mean, where they might be deficient, and what other steps can be taken to reduce uncertainty about the future. Responsibilities include: Analysis and forecasting of congestion and/or transmission costs across all North American power markets and ISOs.
Provide structuring and pricing support for complex and/or long-dated origination, trading, development and acquisition transactions.
Analyze large amounts of data and assist in the improvement of valuation models.
Interface closely and maintain effective working relationships with Origination, Trading, Business Development, Corporate Risk Management, ISOs and others.
Support strategy formulation efforts and asset valuation studies.
Adhere to effective internal controls.
Degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
5 years direct experience in the energy industry specifically related to modeling and/or transmission analysis OR similar experience in the energy sector resulting in the analytical, quantitative, and modeling skills necessary to fulfill the job duties as described. (Candidates with less experience may be considered at a lower level.)
Thorough knowledge of transmission issues and utility operations.
Proven experience in analysis and manipulation of large sets of data.
Ability to think creatively and critically, offer imaginative solutions or approaches to problems, and to communicate results clearly and confidently to upper management.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following: Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related field, or comparable quantitative experience.
Experience with Promod, Aurora, PowerWorld, or similar network dispatch optimization models.
Experience with databases, VBA or other programming languages, and statistical analysis/forecasting.
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, references, drug screen, verification of legal right to work in the U.S., and in some cases, a credit check. A credit check will be administered when a prospective employee will be working in Finance, Accounting, Treasury or where duties may involve handling of funds, accounts or cash.
