Senior Reservoir Engineer - Shenzi Subsurface

PURPOSEProvide reservoir engineering technical support and representation for the company-operated Shenzi development project. As a BHPBilliton employee, HSE, Quality, Regulatory, Risk Assessment/Mitigation, Contingency planning and other associated programs are managed according to BHPB Corporate and Petroleum standards, policies and practices. This position will support all Reservoir Engineering work related to the BHPB-operated Shenzi development, including Shenzi Manifold K and Shenzi North. ACCOUNTABILITIES• Provide excellent engineering support in order to maximize the value of the Shenzi Development and help achieve stated business goals and milestones.• Update plans and forecasts (production and reserves) for Shenzi, Shenzi K Manifold, Shenzi North, and Shenzi M7 developments.• Developing strong working relationships with technical members of partner teams.• Communicate with JV partners and regulatory bodies on engineering technical issues, as requested.• Foster teamwork and maintain a positive work environment to achieve job satisfaction and, consequently, contribute effectively.• Develop technical and leadership capabilities.KEY RELATIONSHIPSThe incumbent will be the senior reservoir engineer in the team, responsible for technical coordination and mentoring of less senior REs on the team (one RE and one Graduate Engineer). The reservoir engineer will work closely with all subsurface team members. External stakeholders should be engaged in a positive manner.Other teams and relationships:• Shenzi IPT • Geological Operations Team• Drilling and Completions Team• Functional Chiefs • Joint Venture partners• PDE (for Appraisal related activities)• Other Development and Production teams (e.g. Neptune, Shenzi Manifold K) RESPONSIBILITIES• Contribute to developing budgets, plans and contingency plans, and engineering-related MOC’s and DRS’s as appropriate and ensure key project milestones and objectives are realized.• Develop production forecasts, reserve estimates, and engineering input into well plans/operations.• Participate in HSE and quality activities/initiatives. • Develop and maintain technical expertise.• Develop, maintain and manage networks and relationships with key individuals, other BHPB development and JIU/PU teams, government bodies (e.g. MMS), key consultants (e.g. regulatory staff) and joint venture partners.• Guide and mentor less experienced reservoir engineers on the team.• Foster active participation by team in well planning/execution teams and provide advice on well locations, well data collection, and contingency planning• Ensure that necessary documentation for appropriate regulatory submittals to the MMS is done accurately and meets requisite deadlines.• Facilitate communication of the team’s technical results, technical position, conclusions and recommendations to Shenzi IPT, joint venture partners and BHP Billiton management in both formal and informal forums. • Ensure effective handovers occur when Developments transition to GOM PU (both Shenzi Manifold K and Shenzi).EXPERIENCE• The candidate should have at least eight years or more of relevant experience. Experience with operated developments is desirable as is experience with geological modeling, reservoir characterization, production assurance, well planning and drilling operations. • Good technical communicator (written and spoken) and influencing skills• Excellent collaboration skills QUALIFICATIONS• Bachelor degree in relevant Engineering or Science discipline required• A minimum of eight years (for outstanding candidates) relevant experience in the upstream petroleum industry. • A strong background in field development is required in addition to partner relationship building skills.
