Senior Market Economist (Market Assessment Analyst)
Midwest ISO invites a senior economist to join a multi-disciplinary team engaged in developing innovative and creative solutions to business problems in energy markets under a collegial participatory management. Under the general direction of the departmental management team, the Senior Economist's primary responsibilities include undertaking lead in evaluation of over all market performance analysis, assessments of market efficiency and market behaviors, impact of market rules, evaluations of options for prevention or resolution of potential market design problems, failures or inefficiencies, gaming or non-compliance with the market rules and tariff. o Work with minimum supervision to develop key concepts and manage assignments related to market development and analysis. o Provide economic analysis for market designs and develop key market performance indicators, evaluate market conditions, and perform price analysis. o Assist in developing computational tools for data queries and market analysis. o Prepare study reports and presentation materials for the internal and external audiences. o Support and contribute to other projects, tasks, analysis and regulatory filings. o Assist in market design and other tasks where expertise is needed. o Provide expertise and guidance to other analysis within MISO. o Collaborate with colleagues to develop best practices, attend business meetings and foster team approach to problem solving and efficient work environment. o Support and adhere to core values, the corporate policies and protocols. o Perform related duties and activities as appropriate. Qualifications: o Education: A Bachelor's degree (BS, BA) in Applied Economics & Statistics, Electrical Engineering or Operations Research. Post graduate training and an advanced degree are highly preferred. o Amount of Experience: Three to Five years of related experience with proven analytical and problem solving skills are desirable. Less than three years of work experience may be considered for a candidate with excellent skills and academic training. o Type of Experience: Experience in one or more of the following areas: Applied Econometrics and Statistical analyses, market performance and evaluation, price analysis, energy market operations and resource planning. Strong computational programming skills (e.g., SAS and SQL) are required. Knowledge of large data sets, familiarity with ORACLE data base, modeling, optimization techniques, analysis of electricity and other energy markets are helpful. Demonstrated skills directly related to or transferable to electricity market design and analysis are required. Familiarity with the competitive electricity market analyses, determination of price structures and market development are plus. o Other: Must be comfortable to work effectively in a team environment as a leader, facilitator and active member. Must be able to function in a dynamic, culturally diverse, inter-disciplinary and challenging work environment. Excellent analytical, verbal, written and presentation skills are valued.
