Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Geophysicist, located in Houston, Texas.Overview:The Deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM) is one of Chevron’s premiere exploration focus basins, and we have an opening for a Senior Geophysicist on the Technical Geophysics Team. As a Lead Geophysicist, the successful candidate will play a significant role in identifying and applying the latest technologies in subsurface velocity modeling and imaging for Chevron Deepwater GOM Exploration, Appraisal and Major Capital Projects. Working closely with Chevron’s internal Research and Development groups, as well as external service providers, the candidate will help identify and deploy new technology to improve subsurface understanding. They will advise Chevron Deepwater management on the appropriate technologies in subsurface imaging, as well as mentor less experienced staff. The candidate will perform hands on project work using the latest technologies in complex subsalt velocity modeling to ensure delivery of high quality products to meet the Chevron Deepwater business needs.Qualifications:Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Work on deepwater projects in velocity modeling and subsurface imaging utilizing a mix of Chevron proprietary and vendor technologies.• Act as the primary contact for new technologies in seismic processing, velocity modeling and prestack depth migration technologies from internal and external service providers. • Advise deepwater management on the latest technology trends and opportunities.• Mentor / train other earth scientists in all aspects of subsurface velocity modeling and imaging.• Represent Deepwater Geophysics in meetings with internal / external service providers and partners.Required Qualifications:• A Bachelor’s Degree in Geophysics, Geology or related discipline.• A minimum of 10 years of oil and gas industry experience.• Extensive experience in and applied knowledge of the latest methods in subsalt imaging including seismic trace processing, tomographic velocity modeling, multiple attenuation and prestack depth imaging and migration.• Extensive industry experience in geology and geophysics with prospect maturation / development and applied technology development / deployment.• Experience working with Energy Technology Research and Development (R&D) or Vendor R&D teams on technology development and deployment.• An individual that can hold their own in highly technical discussions and at the same time is able to effectively communicate the bottom-line business value of the new technology to management. • Exceptional communication skills, along with the ability to multi task projects and have a demonstrated track record of working in multi discipline / diverse teams.• Software skills including 3D interpretation systems, GOCAD, ProMAX, Tomography, as well as experience in the latest developments in surface seismic acquisition and subsurface imaging.Preferred Qualifications:• Experience with the latest marine acquisition technologies including wide azimuth towed streamer seismic surveying.• A Master’s Degree in Geology, Geophysics or related discipline.Relocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will be considered.This is a safety sensitive positionEOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:Houston, TX 77002 Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
