Senior Electrical/Communications Engineer
The IBERDROLA RENEWABLES Senior Electrical Engineer - Construction will support the planning, engineering, construction and commissioning activities associated with construction of wind energy projects. This individual will be responsible for design development and standardization; construction planning, technical support and commissioning of electrical metering and enterprise communications system for wind energy projects. As well, the position will assist project management with activities during engineering and construction phases for company projects and will lead continuous improvement efforts for overall electrical and communications system design to drive innovation and ensure efficiencies to improve project reliability, costs and schedule.
Responsibilities include: Support project construction planning and implementation, including: engineering design basis, cost estimating, project scheduling, enterprise integration, document control, and other activities necessary during engineering and construction phases.Assist project and construction management teams during engineering, procurement and construction phases of multiple wind energy projects.Develop and maintain design standards for electrical and communications system infrastructure for wind power projects.Develop and maintain design specifications for communication interfaces between the Company's energy management system (EMS) and wind turbine SCADA systems, meteorological towers, O&M building and miscellaneous facilities for wind power projects.Coordinate development and installation of data communication systems at each wind energy project location for collection and transmission of power production metering, meteorological data, and other EMS data to remote operations facility in Portland. Provide technology leadership in data collection and management systems for wind power generation and substation automation for wind power projects.Assist with planning project sites, including: turbine layout, collector system routing, access roads, building placement, substation location, and other facilities.Assist in development of commissioning and testing documentation and standards.Coordinate internal and external resources that provide technical expertise through design, construction, and commissioning phases of a project. Coordinate and maintain project documentation for due diligence review by an independent engineering firm.Provide technical support to plant operations as may be required for plant breakdown analysis, and recommending corrective actions.Adhere to effective internal controls.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent in education and experience
Minimum 5 years engineering experience in electric power generation and/or transmission and substation construction with a focus on control, metering, protection and communications systems.
2 years experience in communication network design and/or implementation.
Demonstrated ability to plan, design, specify and implement solutions for SCADA, metering and communications systems to meet company's enterprise EMS, remote operations and interconnection utility or other third party stakeholder data communications requirements.
Proven experience with technology assessment, specification and procurement.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency using personal computer tools such as MS Office, Word, Excel, MS Project, Visio, AutoCad, Oracle and other database managements systems.
20-30% travel required.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following: Professional Engineer (Electrical) License or Engineer In Training status.
