Position Description:Chevron Corporation is one of the world’s leading energy companies. Headquartered in San Ramon, California, and conducting business in approximately 180 countries, the company is engaged in every aspect of the oil and natural gas industry, including exploration and production; refining, marketing and transportation; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation. Chevron Global Downstream is accepting online applications for the position of Global Manufacturing – Capital Projects – Scheduler SME located in San Ramon, CA through September 24, 2008. Overview:Global Manufacturing scope is $1.80 Billion/8 wholly owned refineries in 2008 and projected $2.3 Billion annually in 2009 and $2.50 Billion in 2010. Global Manufacturing has an annual $0.95 MM capital project budget in 2009 made up of mostly small projects. Small projects range in size from very small to $100MM (GO-36 level). The Global Manufacturing Scheduler SME is responsible for building a world class capital projects scheduling team at each refinery. In addition to developing best in class work processes and tools, this role will influence the scheduling organizational capability at each refinery. The Global Manufacturing Scheduler SME is responsible for scheduling quality and build for all small capital projects at all eight wholly-owned Chevron refineries across the globe. Each Global Manufacturing Scheduler SME will not have a direct reporting relationship to any of the refinery capital project schedulers at each refinery. This role must rely on a strong influencing model to implement change. A critical skill requirement will be relationships building and strong communication. This will enable strong change management to drive change with numerous project managers, team leaders and schedulers in order to standardize work processes.This role will play a critical role in ensure projects get approved timely. Managing conflicting requirements due to numerous requests from multiple refineries and project managers is another core competency that this position requires. The demands of this role require strong time management and communications skills. The role interfaces with individuals at all levels of the organization and with varying skill sets. Job travel is estimated to be ~15%Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:Refinery Project Schedule Assurance• Conduct Schedule Assurance process on all small projects between $50K and $100MM at all eight wholly-owned Chevron Refineries. Each schedule will range from 500 to 5000 activities per schedule.• Most schedules will be assessed remotely. ie. Conduct schedule assurance workshops via net meetings and teleconference calls.• Assist Project Resources Company Schedule Assurances on all projects >$100MM for Global Manufacturing projects.• Ensure all capital project schedules exceed minimal acceptable standards and raise the bar to improve schedules to “best in class” standards.Schedule Risk Assessment• Host and facilitate Schedule Risk Assessment workshops at each refinery for all small capital projects.• Assist external schedule risk assessment consultants on assessment for large projects (>$100MM) • Work with each project to develop schedule risk mitigation plans.• Be the Subject Matter Expert in Schedule Risk (probabilistic modeling) tools and processes.• Train PM and refinery schedulers on the Risk Assessment tools.Refinery Project Schedule Competency and Best Practices• Build and maintain refinery competency and tools in capital project scheduling.• Train and Mentor refinery project engineers.• Champion Best Practices and PRC scheduling guidelines.• Produce a competency building plan.Refinery Capital Projects Monthly Project Progress Reports• Review all Capital Projects monthly progress reports to ensure schedule and progress reporting is accurately reported.• Analyze manpower loading and balancing across the enterprise using Primavera scheduling as the report tool.• Send monthly request for data• Produce monthly schedule analysis and change mgmt• Respond to HQ special report requests and ad hoc information needs.Benchmarking• Benchmarks Chevron refinery project controls performance to other refiners and uses findings to lay the foundation for new systems or techniques. Keeps abreast of new developments by establishing and maintaining contacts with network contacts via attendance at annual external project control conference e.g. IPA conference.Special Project• In 2009, Global Manufacturing will be upgrading their scheduling software from MS Project and Primavera P3/P5 to Primavera P6. This is a major upgrade and will require extensive home office support at all CVX refineries. This position will be a key contact in the implementation and will lead many of the implementation initiatives. It is expected that this change will occur over an 18 month period.Required (Basic) Qualifications:• High School diploma or equivalent is required.• Refinery work experience is required.• Minimum of 5 years experience in Capital Projects and/or Refinery Turnaround planning and scheduling with multiple simultaneous complex projects with facilities integration issues.• Candidate expected to show a deep understanding of planning and scheduling theories and techniques.• Candidate should have strong knowledge of schedule risk assessment and probability tools.• Candidate should be skilled in the application of computer software (Excel, Word and scheduling skills in Primavera)• Demonstrated personal and leadership commitment to Safety, Reliability, and Incident and Injury Free Operations.• Proven verbal and written communications skills to effectively facilitate and influence at a variety of levels across the organization.• Candidate must exhibit strong leadership and change management skills.
