SAP Manager for Major Energy Distributor in northern NJ

Major Energy Distributor located in northern New Jersey is looking for an Manager of Applications and Systems Programming for a new Retail Project.  Prior experience with SAP is a important (either in a hands-on or management capacity).  Candidate must have been a Manager for a minimum of 3 years.  Only green card holders or US citizens, please

General Summary:

A Manager of Applications Systems and Programming reports to the Director of Information Services and is responsible for applications development, overall project coordination, implementation and ongoing support for application systems.  As an integral part of these activities, this manager oversees the administration of highly technical professionals.  He or She functions as a business manager, which encompasses business systems evaluations, strategic project planning, and implementation of business department requirements into automated application system solutions. Additionally, the position maintains a client relationship with management to assure the overall objectives of the Company and / or business support areas are accomplished.

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Assist the Director in management and setting direction for the enterprise's application systems and programming group including creating plans, setting priorities, coordinating activities, and the reporting of group progress and status on a regular basis.

2.  Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of the members of his/her assigned application systems and programming group.

3.  Provide analysis and work estimates for projects both internal and external. Direct the activities of the coding, testing and implementation stage from design phase which includes; application software, technical evaluation, programming, controls, documentation, implementation and other activities required by the project, end-users and other business management personnel.

4.  Provide senior technical leadership to IS and the enterprise including being conversant with the future direction of enterprise systems, how that direction will impact the enterprise, and how future and current systems can be exploited for the benefit of the enterprise.

5.  Act as a liaison to clients and be an in-house consultant to management and the businesses in those areas related to the resolution of problems.

6.  Manage the personnel of the systems and programming group including staffing needs fulltime or temporary, assisting in the development, motivation and guidance of staff on career path opportunities.

7.  Implement policies and procedures defining the responsibilities of the end-users, data base administrators, systems analysts and programmers in acquiring, building, maintaining, and using the business applications systems.

8.  Coordinate the collection data security requirements including who has the right to access data and providing that information in a proper form to parties directly responsible for security administration.

9.  Assist the business areas in defining business application system data backup and recovery requirements.  Subsequently responsible for communicating those requirements to the systems and operations departments for implementation.  Where application architecture or programming changes are required to support backup and recovery needs, the Application Systems and Programming manager would be responsible for insuring those changes were implemented.

10.  Manage a cost-center budget for the upcoming fiscal year and provide a monthly analysis of actual expenses vs. planned expenses.  Additionally, the normal activities associated with managing day to day activities of employees and consultants would be required.  This would include, but would not be limited to attendance monitoring, disciplinary action when needed, performance appraisals, establishing after hours support schedules, etc.

11.  Ensure adherence to department standards, methods and policies.

New Retail Project:

This manager is responsible for all aspects of the selection, any needed development (functions and interfaces to other systems) and the implementation of the systems targeted to replace the mainframe and PC-based Retail system..  In addition, this manager must organize a project team by identifying and obtaining individuals with the necessary skill sets to complete all project tasks on a timely basis.

 

Specific Functions

1.  Develop a high-level project plan that takes project from software selection through implementation.

2.  Organize the collection of business requirements and develop a detailed request for proposal (RFP) to be distributed to software vendors for evaluation. 

3.  Evaluate responses and make software selection.

4.  Assist in negotiations and contract construction and review with the selected software vendor.

5.  Develop a comprehensive detailed project plan and budget for management review.

6.  Monitor project activity throughout the lifecycle of the project.

7.  Work with software vendor analysts and development team to insure the proper deliverables are achieved.

8.  Provide necessary guidance to project team members, both consultants and employees.

9.  Assist project team members in solving business problems, re-engineering certain business functions.

10. Manage and monitor the project budget, reviewing and approving all project expenses.  This includes checking for accuracy and reasonableness of all expenses.

11. Insure that a proper training and deployment program is developed and executed.
