Chevron Products Company is accepting online applications for the position of Refinery Operator Trainee located in El Segundo, California through September 24, 2008.Overview:The Refinery Operator Trainee is a program comprised of both classroom and on-the-job training. Continuous advancements in refinery technology make it necessary to hire employees that have a high level of knowledge and experience in order to meet changing business requirements. We actively seek individuals that have education and training in areas that provide measurable benefits to our business.Requirements for Operator Trainee positions include on the job and classroom training, rotating 12 hour shifts (weekends and holidays in a 24/7 operation), operation of equipment by manual, computer or instrument control to maintain process temperatures, pressures and flow rates. Applicant must be able to work at elevated heights and climb ladders and stairs. These are often located on towers and columns in Refinery Operating areas.Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Reviews daily orders and shift turnover. • Checks instruments and equipment, assures that the operating conditions and equipment conform to the turnover. • Operates equipment manually and /or by instrument/computer control, maintaining ordered temperatures, pressures, levels, flow rates and/or other process variables to meet planned production and quality. • Fires furnaces, operates pumps, sets lines and manifolds, changes blinds and jump-overs, operates compressors, gages and pumps tanks, draws samples, runs control tests, sends samples to the lab, adjusts chemical injection rates, zeroes meters, changes charts and tests alarms. Repairs equipment as required within ability to accomplish safely. • Performs other work, such as cleanup for upkeep and good housekeeping.• Keeps Shift Supervisor and Head Operator fully informed of mechanical and process conditions and immediately notifies them when planned operating conditions cannot be maintained and proceeds as directed. Keeps them informed of any other conditions that warrant their attention. • Follows established procedures in any emergency until otherwise directed. • Complies with and enforces established rules and regulations in use of safety equipment. Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Must be able to work at high altitudes and confined spaces• Applicants must pass written and computer tests • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent• Due to the Safety Sensitive nature of the position, all offers are contingent upon a pre-employment medical and physical examination(including color blind test), a drug screen and a background security check and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.Preferred Qualifications:• Basic Microsoft PC usage ability preferred.• Work experience preferred in operations, in an industrial setting such as Refining or Chemical manufacturing or in a military environment.Relocation Options:Relocation will not be considered.International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will not be considered.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:Long Beach, CA 90245 Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Manufacturing/Production/Operations
