QC Inspector IV
Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corp, located near Burlington, KS, operates a 1,235 megawatt pressurized water reactor. Recognized for its outstanding safety record, Kansas’ only nuclear power plant produces enough electricity for about 800,000 homes. Kansas City Power & Light Company, a Great Plains Energy company, Westar Energy, Inc. and Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc., jointly own the power plant.
Duties and Responsiblities:Maintain all areas of knowledge and experience associated with procedures, instructions, and work orders associated with inspections, examinations, and material receipt as required by the Level III. Review schedules and assigns duties to inspection and examination personnel. Implement schedules, perform inspection planning, and perform completion reviews associated with inspections, examinations, and material receipt. Perform inspections, examinations, and material receipt of work activities associated with plant maintenance, modifications, or construction projects in accordance with approved procedures and instructions. Perform testing or verification of materials associated with permanent plant equipment. Develop and implement various inspection and examination programs and procedures. Identify and initiate corrective action documents for hardware and performance issues. Evaluate performance issues and develop corrective actions as assigned. Evaluate indeterminate or unacceptable inspection or examination results for defect characterization and possible corrective measures. Provide technical direction and oversight for other personnel during normal and outage work activities. Train and certify lower level personnel.This position will have final disposition authority over inspection and examination procedures or issues. This position is considered a Lead position within the organization and oversees daily and outage activities associated with inspection, examination, and material receipt activities.
Requirements:Must be certified as a Level III within the last five years in at least one discipline or method per ANSI N.45.2.6 or ASNT CP-189. Must have a minimum of eight years of relevant experience. Other areas of qualification such as successful completion of discipline or method specific training may be considered equivalent to the initial training requirements as approved by the Certifying Authority of Supervisor QC. Must possess the skills and knowledge to interpret codes, standards, and specifications. Must be able to verify the adequacy of processes, procedures, written practices, and Inspector/Examiner certifications to those same codes, standards, and specifications. Must have a general knowledge of QC and NDE inspection and examination techniques. Must be able to successfully pass and maintain site qualifications necessary to support the performance of inspections and examinations. (PAT, RAD II, Confined Space, Respirator, E-Plan, etc.) This position requires basic computer skills and the ability to comprehend new software programs associated with inspection and examination activities. Must be able to work in hot and cold environments. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding to perform duties of this job. Must be able to safely lift and move inspection and examination equipment weighing appx. 50 pounds.Must be certified as a Level III Welding in accordance with CP-189 required.
