Project Manager, Clean Energy

The Renewable Energy Trust (RET) has an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager in the Clean Energy Program.

The Project Manager has the primary responsibility for managing the Community Wind Collaborative (CWC), an initiative that fosters development of municipally-sponsored, utility-scale wind energy projects. In this role, the Project Manager will reach out to and communicate with Community Wind Collaborative communities; assess each community’s need for CWC services and establish priorities to provide these services.

The Project Manager serves as a resource on wind technology and development issues, both internally within the organization and for external stakeholders. The Project Manager also works with other RET staff members to develop and coordinate activities targeting barriers to renewable energy development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Manager’s specific responsibilities include: Manage the Community Wind Collaborative: Oversee outreach to municipalities and other organizations that express interest in working with RET through the Community Wind Collaborative. Prepare and deliver presentations about wind energy and the collaborative to community groups and municipal governments.
Manage the release and review of RFPs and solicitations, including staff review and peer review of proposals.
Serve as lead contact to communities in the early stages of the wind development process. Help these communities advance through the various steps involved with assessing the feasibility of wind development on municipal lands.
Supervise consultant(s) working with early-stage communities.
Serve as project manager for communities with complex issues.
Coordinate the work of other Clean Energy staff serving as project managers for specific communicates.
Develop or oversee the development of a body of materials and evaluation strategies to track the progress of individual projects of the CWC initiative.
Work with the Project Administrator to ensure that all necessary grant records are maintained.
Supervise research, outreach, and other activities undertaken by the Clean Energy intern.
Provide information about RET-funded projects to RET management and to relevant stakeholders.
Disseminate information about community wind and wind development through oral presentations, written materials, the MTC website, and communication with the news media. Help RET management and other state agencies identify opportunities and overcome barriers to wind energy development, foster dialogue about the development of renewable energy facilities, and encourage communities to plan for the development of such facilities.
Identify projects and/or activities that RET and/or state agencies should undertake as a part of this strategy. Manage grants and contracts that are issued as a result of RFPs and solicitations. Make recommendations to grantees and contractors about disseminating the results of their work. Carry out dissemination efforts and document projects on the MTC website as appropriate. Assist in the development of other new initiatives or projects that promote the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects, and manage or coordinate such initiatives or projects as assigned by the Clean Energy Program Director. Perform additional or related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

Our candidate of choice will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, economics, or business administration with five to eight years’ experience in relevant positions of increasing responsibility, preferably in project management. Your knowledge of the renewable energy industry in Massachusetts and your experience involving community planning and public policy development will fit well within the Renewable Energy Trust.

Your strong organizational skills, ability to understand complex public policy issues related to renewable energy development, coupled with your strong interpersonal communication skills and your ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, internal staff, and working groups will be key assets.
