RTI International has been working in the area of coal and biomass gasification, syngas cleanup/processing, and syngas utilization/conversion for the last 20 years. Currently we have a number of active programs developing technologies for production of electric power, fuels and chemicals from coal and biomass gasification, as well as for the separation of CO2 from syngas and post-combustion flue gas. The development of CO2 related process technologies and their integration with other processes under development at RTI is of strategic importance for our future growth.

RTI’s Center for Energy Technology is seeking a Senior Research Engineer/Program Manager to lead our efforts in the area of CO2 separation / capture.

The candidate will have successfully managed R&D programs in the CO2 and/or related areas and will have experience in designing and operating lab-scale and bench-scale test systems. A fundamental understanding of gasification and syngas processing as well as experience in catalysis and reaction engineering are desirable.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and driven by the goal to make new technologies a commercial reality.  Project management skills are essential, as is the capability to collaborate beyond the organization.  The candidate will have experience securing project funding from Government and/or industry. He/she will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively build strong client relationships with industrial partners and government entities. He/she will have the people skills to manage and lead a team of junior engineers and technicians, and develop and motivate staff members to their highest potential.

This position will require some domestic and international travel.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage ongoing projects in our CO2 capture program area. Assume supervisory role for project staff and responsibility for day-to-day project coordination. Ensure that project goals exceed client’s expectations regarding timely delivery and quality.
• Expand CO2 program through initiation of new research projects and staffing. Sustain and grow funding through effective dialog with existing and new clients, and through proposal writing.
• Further develop RTI’s intellectual property position in this area.
• Grow RTI’s reputation through publications and presentations to the scientific community.
• Assist in commercialization of CO2 related technologies developed by RTI.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience with process technologies related to CO2 capture and sequestration.
• A thorough technical understanding of engineering principles and process technologies as they relate to CO2 capture/sequestration and their integration into power production and other industrial processes, demonstrated through technical publications, conference presentations, and patents.
• The candidate will also have an understanding of the economic implications of CO2 capture/sequestration on industrial processes.
