Principle Engineer, R&D

Job Title: Principal engineer, R&DReports to:   Chief Scientist  Summary of Job Outputs This position will support eSolar’s scientific initiatives associated with the advanced development of opto-mechanical components, and thermal and chemical systems.    Essential Duties and Responsibilities  Design and perform experiments characterizing optical and thermal plant performance Conceive of new R&D projects through discussions with peers and independent research Design and optimization of components or subsystems of the power plant Perform experiments in the laboratory and at outdoor test fields Design and build equipment for heat and optical measurement Manage research projects Write reports on experimental results  Performance Measurements·  Experimental results are accurate and agree with models·  Algorithms and test methods are embraced and adopted by engineering and operations·  Experiments are performed in accordance with careful scientific methods·  Work product advances the state of company’s know how and competitive position Competencies-  Technical - Experience with writing software for image processing and data acquisition-  MATLAB, SolidWorks and ANSYS proficiency-  Real-world application of mathematical methods such as linear algebra,  Fourier analysis, and optimization-  Talent and passion for building and calibrating complex instrumentation-  Optical bench setups, alignment techniques, and radiometric measurements-  Must have hands on aptitude for mechanics & electronics.-  Solid understanding of data analysis and statistics-  Must be able to work independently in a fast changing environment, prioritizing multiple tasks, providing guidance and supervising technicians, while managing deadlines.-  Excellent project management, verbal and written communication skills Contacts – Internal and ExternalInternal – R&D personnel, engineering, and manufacturing/supply chainExternal – Outside laboratories and suppliers (presentations and meetings).  Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education PhD in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering Experience Demonstrated contributions to product development or scientific research is required.
