Power System Engineer
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) mission is to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of high-voltage electricity throughout New York and to administer its multibillion-dollar wholesale electricity market.NYISO's team of over 400 professionals use leading-edge technology to operate the nation's most comprehensive wholesale power exchange and deliver electricity to utilities serving 19.2 million customers throughout New York State.We have an opening in our Energy Market Operations / Commitment Analysis group for a Power Systems Engineer who will be primarily responsible overseeing the daily operations of the NYISO Day-Ahead market. Specific Responsibilities include: Perform daily procedure of running the Security Constrained Unit Commitment for the Day Ahead Energy Market Coordinate daily commitment activities with other NYISO departments such as Scheduling, Power System Operations, Market Monitoring and Information Technology Direct, implement, test and maintain software modifications to the Day-Ahead and Real-Time Scheduling programs Provide support in the development of software and techniques to assist in analyzing market functions Perform routine engineering studies Provide Power System Operations Dispatcher support and Operator training in subject area Develop and maintain operating procedures to address special market and operating conditions Provide technical support to Customer Service in replying to Market Participant questions for all aspects of Market Operations Participate in shift rotation consisting of four 10-hour days, sometimes including weekends Minimal travel required – less than 5%Required Experience/Skills: 3+ years experience in power system engineering, unit commit operations, operations or related discipline; candidates with less experience may also be considered Working knowledge of UNIX desiredEducation: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required (concentration in Power Systems preferred).Master’s Degree (MS) Electrical Engineering helpful Candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.Position may be filled at various levels depending on candidate qualifications such as experience and technical skills.NYISO offers competitive pay and great benefits including 401k, pension, bonus opportunity, on site gym, cafeteria and tuition reimbursement.
