To apply for this position, please visit http://www.progress-energy.com/aboutus/employment/postings/jobs.asp Job Title: Occupational Health & Safety Spec Location: FL - DeBary Job ID:96096 Job DescriptionThis is a field health & safety position that will support Combustion Turbine (CT) Operations in Power Generation Florida. This position will support all of the CT locations in Florida and will be based at the DeBary CT Plant located in DeBary, Florida. Candidate will be responsible for providing professional health and safety technical assistance; performing hands-on health and safety hazard analysis and compliance assessments; providing recommendations and support to mitigate or eliminate workplace hazards; and developing and implementing written health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Candidate will work closely with CT Operations management and the EHS professionals within CT Operations to ensure accomplishment of goals through effective planning, organizing and scheduling of individual work activities. Candidate will maintain professional knowledge of existing and proposed changes in all industrial hygiene and industrial safety regulations and serve as the point of contact for CT Operations as the health and safety technical expert. In addition, candidate will be responsible for assessing the operational impact of existing and proposed regulations and will be able to independently identify, develop and present recommendations to CT management. Candidate must possess strong team skills and be able to coordinate work activities with the other occupational health and safety specialists in Florida and North and South Carolina, and provide regulatory specific support to the CT EHS professionals and management responsible for implementation of regulatory requirements. In addition to normal work, position must be available to be on-call as necessary and to work with the EHS professionals and CT management to perform work required during planned outages or emergency situations, including storm duty. At least 50% travel may be required for this job due to the different plant locations. This position may be filled at a higher level, based on the experience and qualifications of candidate. Minimum requirements for this job are a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other related field, and 1 - 4 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Power plant experience along with Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is preferred. Qualifications Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1-4 years like-work experience. Four years of like-work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree, or combination of education and like-work experience totaling 5 - 8+ years.
