Chevron North America Exploration and Production is accepting applications for a Midway Sunset Petroleum Engineer, located in Bakersfield, California.Overview:The Petroleum Engineer will provide technical support for development projects in the Midway Sunset (MWSS) Monterey and Spellacy reservoirs. This role requires working with other team members to analyze and plan reservoir development projects, estimating recoveries, analyzing well data, performing lookbacks, supporting business plan development and maintaining asset development plans. The Midway Sunset field is located approximately 45 miles southwest of Bakersfield. Producing Operations include gas, heavy, and light oil with some shared facilities. Steamflood and/or heavy oil experience desirable with effective heat management skills. Fields consist of horizontal and conventional vertical wells. Qualifications:Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Support steamflood optimization and planning vertical and horizontal development wells in the Spellacy reservoir, as well as develop cyclic thermal production in the Monterey reservoir. • Engage key technical experts from Chevron and work with stakeholders in all aspects of project management, post execution follow-up and on-going communications with Reservoir Management Teams, Technical Teams, and Operations during project development, execution, and post-implementation evaluation. • Mentor Horizons employees and/or summer intern employees.• Support and champion the Chevron Way and HES behaviors. • Provide reservoir engineering input for Phase 1- 5 Chevron Project Development and Execution Process (CPDEP) project development.• Suggest ways of optimizing the investment portfolio to maximize NPV. • Prepare reservoir development plans.• Create monthly outlooks.• Perform economic evaluations.• Monitor reservoir performance and develop mitigation plans, as needed.• Identify and develop opportunities to improve performance of the asset.• Support preparation of strategic plan, business plan, look backs, property tax reviews, and standard measure of oil and gas reports.• Support use of CPDEP and CSOC processes and objectives during planning and execution of well development projects. • Support reserves estimation and reporting including presentations to Chevron’s Reserves Advisory Committee (migrate reserves, as appropriate, and prepare core reserve validation presentation for Reserves Advisory Committee review).• Work and effectively communicate with project team, stakeholders and management as required.• Organize and facilitate weekly team meetings.• Participate and/or lease Lean Sigma projects.• Applies reservoir, production, & geologic principles to improve recovery, opportunity identification and project execution. • Identify and implement new technologies for enhanced production and recovery.Required Qualifications:• A Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering; or an Engineering or Earth Science Degree from another discipline along with relevant experience.• A minimum of 3 years of reservoir engineering experience.• Knowledgeable in reservoir management processes, production forecasting, log interpretation, and reservoir surveillance. • Technical skills in reserve calculation, forecasting & decline curve analysis. • The ability to apply project management tools, processes & behaviors to ensure good project decisions with excellence in execution. • Strong analytical skills.• Experience and strong capabilities in database querying, statistical analysis and advanced spreadsheets (Excel, Oracle, etc.).• The ability to clearly convey concepts and project information verbally, in presentations, and reports, with all levels of the organization.• The ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, leads teams, as well as mentor and develop others.• MS Office, Visual Basic, programming, and macros.
