Manager, Public Affairs

We’re currently searching for a Manager, Public affairs. This Hampton, NH based position reports directly to the Vice President of Public Affairs and will focus primarily on directing the organization’s legislative agenda. This person shall operate with a high degree of autonomy to advocate for Wheelabrator’s interests in legislative issues. The successful candidate will be an independent, innovative self-starter with exceptional communication abilities, proven networking skills, and a high level of attention to detail. Duties will include the following:
- Represent Wheelabrator before legislative bodies and regulatory agencies.
- Monitor and analyze legislation and public policy issues and keep Wheelabrator senior management apprised of legislative issues.
- Direct lobbying efforts of state legislative consultants.
- Help craft testimony on legislation where appropriate and secure support for Wheelabrator positions.
- Build relationships with, and serve as resource for, members of state legislatures and their staffs.
- Coordinate legislative and regulatory educational and advocacy events in states.
- Build coalitions and coordinate with other companies and industry associations in order to support, oppose, or amend pending legislative regulatory or public policy proposals.
- Represent Wheelabrator on state organizations that further Wheelabrator’s interests.
- Enhance Wheelabrator’s visibility at the state level before legislative committees and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain and provide continual review of all pending and current legislation before the legislature of states in which Wheelabrator operates.
- Interact with the media as required to address issues and promote Wheelabrator and Waste Management.
Education/Experience:
- Requires BA/BS Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
- Six to 10 years of related lobbying/legislative/advocacy experience.
- Six to 10 years demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the legislative process.
- Up to 50% travel may be required.
- Drivers license required.
