The Corporate Accounting Department at Tucson Electric Power Company seeks an energetic professional who: Enjoys challenging accounting research Is experienced in regulatory accounting Has excellent written and oral communication skills Demonstrates leadership skills and ability to develop subordinates Understands effective internal controls Identifies and leads appropriate change initiatives Meets deadlines and multi-tasks in a high-pressure environment

The department is responsible for all accounting for UniSource Energy (a publicly traded company) and its subsidiaries, including Tucson Electric Power Company.

 

Position-Related Responsibilities include:Prepares and/or reviews monthly journal entries for accuracy, compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements, etc. Analyzes the effects of transactions on various account relationships related to financial statements. Prepares and/or reviews multi-level consolidating financial statements (income statement, direct and indirect cash flow statement, and balance sheet), ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) guidelines, and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements. Researches, recommends accounting treatment, and implements solutions on new transactions. Sometimes very complex. Monitors activity of regulatory rule-making bodies such as FASB, SEC, FERC, etc. to identify new requirements. Ensures timely notification to Accounting Dept., upper management, and implements procedures to comply with new requirements. Develops and documents new accounting procedures and modifications to existing procedures to enhance efficiency/effectiveness and maintain internal controls.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:Knowledge of GAAP, reporting requirements, SEC Regulations and FERC requirements. Able to prepare and review complex multi-level consolidating financial statements. Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Superior analytical skills. Familiarity with accounting information systems and proficiency in the use of end-user computing tools. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for each position.

Lead Financial Accountant

 

Has primary responsibility for accounting research, analysis, compliance or consolidation projects of any size or complexity. Effectively supervises multiple projects to successful completion. Is a technical expert in evaluating accounting issues and is a primary source of advice/guidance; deals with very complex accounting transactions and determines compliance requirements. Leads several complex projects at the same time and assists others on complex projects. Provides technical leadership, training and guidance to less experienced accountants. Exhibits leadership qualities to the entire department. Proactively identifies accounting issues and unusual transactions in assigned areas and ensures team members focus on resolving in a timely manner. Helps team members identify significant items and prioritize work loads, and understand the impact of transactions on internal and external reporting. Provides leadership to the department from both a technical accounting standpoint and a supervisory capacity. Proactively identifies accounting issues and unusual transactions (not just in assigned areas) and ensures team members focus on resolving in a timely manner. Ensures team members and upper management are aware of issues. Directly and indirectly supervises two or more people. Requires Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting with a minimum of 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution and 10 years related experience. Public accounting experience and CPA preferred.
