Visit http://www.thermofisher.com Job Description Job Title: Lab Technician Reports To: (note direct and matrix reporting lines as applicable) R&D ManagerGroup/Division: Materials and Mineral / PID Career Band: ILocation: San Diego No. of Direct Reports: 0Day/Shift: DayFLSA Status: non-exempt Position Summary: This position is a three month assignment providing “hands-on” technical support to Research and Development personnel in the areas of new product development and new technology evaluation. The Lab Technician will primarily be responsible for preparing and conducting experiments using laser-based instrumentation and compiling data for the R&D staff, as well as assembling electronic and mechanical test fixtures to support new instrument design. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Build-up and test optical, mechanical, and electrical assemblies Set-up and conduct measurements using laser-based test fixtures Troubleshoot test equipment and fixtures, fabricate components, jigs, fittings, and fixtures, responsible for the assembly and disassembly of equipment, propose measurement equipment Organize test materials, supplies and test equipment Assisting Research and Development staff in preparation of test plans and reports. Maintain complete and accurate records of same. Maintain laboratory work area and areas shared with other developmental staff in a neat and orderly fashion. Order laboratory supplies and equipment as needed Other activities as assigned and directed by management. Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria: Assembly skills – especially for basic electrical and mechanical instruments. Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings, standards documents and test instructions Experience in conducting experiments, organizing and reporting test results according to a test procedure Experience in use of electronics test equipment, laser measurement equipment, hand tools and power tools. Ability to make sketches, explain technical problems, suggest solutions Problem sensitivity - ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong Basic computer skills: Excel, Word, Internet Team worker Experience in using an oscilloscope Hand soldering experience Preferably 1 – 2 years industrial laboratory experience. Associate Degree or Vocational School Certificate preferred. Education: High School/GEDJob Level: Entry Level
