Internal Audit, IT Primary Role:

Responsible for providing support in evaluating and assessing American Water’s (AW) risks/controls on the basis of an integrated control framework model to assure: 1) the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, 2) the reliability of financial reporting, 3) compliance with laws and regulations, and 4) the safeguarding of company assets. The goal is to deliver value-added services to mitigate Information Technology (IT) risks that have a high impact and likelihood to AW.

Key Accountabilities:

Assesses risks/controls from an integrated business control framework COSO and COBiT (an IT governance framework and supporting toolset) and works with management to mitigate risks where possible, as well as reinforce control systems currently existing in AW.
Works on assigned projects and develops risk/control assessments based on project objectives and expectations.
Supports risk/control awareness and self-assessment throughout AW.
Supports audits and consulting engagements of client/server technology and mainframe platforms, programming, internet and intranet functionality, databases, technology strategy, data communication, network security, in-house and outsourced IT data centers.
Evaluates the IT internal controls (general controls and application controls) of these areas and works collaboratively with management team to identify actions needed.
Assesses information technology control elements to mitigate IT risks regarding the confidentiality, integrity and availability of business information.

Desired experience with the following applications/processes: Data mining, Hyperion, ECIS, JDE, PowerPlant, Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP, Oracle, etc.), Change Control, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.
Strong ethical values.

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of control processes/systems in the industry is desired.
Demonstrated basic understanding of the auditing process and function, as well as the business model.
Ability to map input-output diagrams and engage in statistical analyses.

Four-year College Degree preferably with an Information Technology major.

At least one of the following certifications desired – CIA, CPA, CISA, CFE, CISA certified (or in the process/willing to pursue this certification)
