Scope & Responsibilities:  The Instrumentation Metering & Control Tech (IM&C Tech) installs, maintains, tests, and repairs in a safe, reliable manner all instrumentation, controls, meters, electrical machinery, and auxiliaries for Company boiler plants, distribution system, and customer facilities.

· Maintains safe working conditions: identifies and corrects or reports unsafe conditions in work areas.

· Performs assignments in conformance with all published Company operating and safety policies and procedures

· Works to blueprints, sketches, and other written instructions; completes corrective maintenance and overhauls; and improves operation of instruments, controls, and metering and electrical equipment installed in plants and in customer facilities

· Overhauls and calibrates customer flow metering equipment

· Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment in customer and Company facilities.  Effects electrical maintenance in accordance with all local and national codes

· Analyzes instrument, control, and metering problems and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies

· Analyzes electrical equipment and system problems and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies

· Advises supervisor when work is beyond Company's capability to correct and recommends the need for outside assistance of vendors, engineering contractors, and consultants as necessary

· Maintains records of readings and test results for all assigned equipment

· Maintains records and files of readings and data taken during overhauls and preventive maintenance

· Works mandatory overtime when required and rotating shifts when assigned

· Takes rotating, on-call (beeper) on weekends, back shifts, and holidays

 

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

· High school diploma or GED equivalent

· 7 years’ experience in the calibration, repair, and maintenance of industrial and commercial instrumentation and controls with a thorough understanding of the principles of control theory

· Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical manuals, and policy

· Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing concerning technical reports, recommendations, and routine paperwork

· Familiar with and able to use various test equipment such as multi meters, dead weight testers, combustion analyzers, and frequency generators and counters in order to calibrate and troubleshoot instruments and metering equipment

· Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable by Company's vehicle insurance carrier

· Within three (3) years of hire date, must take and pass the Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer’s licensing exam

· Ability to climb and tolerate heights up to 75 feet and to tolerate confined spaces including but not limited to manholes and boilers and ability to lift up to 50 lbs

· Ability to operate manual shift transmission vehicles

· Working knowledge of personal computers and applications programs
