Reporting to the Head of Hillsboro CZ Division, the Equipment Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the design, planning, construction and ongoing maintenance of equipment, machinery, and other facilities vital to the operation of the CZ area in Hillsboro. This position plans, budgets, and schedules modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor, materials and other related costs. The position ensures adequate tool, process and personnel capabilities are continuously developed and maintained for a highly efficient and functional system supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operation. Designs and develops organizational policies relevant to the department. As the leader of the equipment team, this position selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function and manages through others to accomplish business objectives. Specific deliverables associated with this position include: • Manage the Equipment Engineering and Maintenance department for the CZ operation in Hillsboro, OR. • Ensure Safe and environmentally sound practices within all areas. • Manage the individual equipment startups and modifications to ensure that all required facility systems are fully capable of 24/7 operations to meet production schedules. • Actively develop the engineering team through hiring, motivating and training of employees to build capable departmental functions for the required 24/7 operational support. • Develop objectives and targets for the department and its employees based on company goals, and ensure proper execution to meet expected outcomes. • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring proper control and appropriate improvement plans are in place. • Develop and deploy continuous improvement projects for improved overall efficiency in cost, quality and productivity. • Set equipment standards that align with SolarWorld's philosophy of sustainability. Drive these standards through all areas of the facility. • Develop and implement predictive and preventive maintenance programs and measurements for the equipment. • Drive implementation of clean operations standards in the areas. • Plan, budget, and schedule equipment modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts, and contracts for construction and acquisitions. • Develop long range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay requirements and documentation for expansions in coordination with Investment planning department. Support within a project function any expansion projects. • Formulate and coordinate program specifications, requirements for proposals and contracts, and associated documents. • Inspect construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications and safety. • Oversee and direct maintenance personnel and workers engaged in equipment installation, equipment repair, and preventive maintenance. • Drive and enforce use of structured problem solving and statistical analysis within the daily work of the group. • Support other departments as required to meet company objectives. • Execute on targets defined in annual personal objectives. This position is ideal for a seasoned equipment engineering expert with prior leadership role(s) in the function. The ideal candidate relishes the challenge of a startup environment and is a proactive problem-solver with an ability to execute projects of significant scope and complexity and lead others. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience: • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (i.e., electrical, chemical or mechanical engineering). • 5 years leadership experience in similar role and discipline. • Must possess an in-depth working knowledge of Solar PV, Semiconductor or related wafer-based manufacturing equipment. • Must possess excellent project management capabilities, as this position will be responsible for driving large projects to successful completion according to established timelines. • Proficient in Microsoft Office productivity tools such as Word, Excel and Power Point as well as ERP systems for reporting. Additional preference for knowledge and use of project management software and ERP systems. • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. • Must demonstrate effective leadership (e.g., people management) skills for managing a function including performance management, career development and coaching of supervisors, engineers and other individual contributor positions. • Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives by working in and with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams. • Preference for entrepreneurial drive and prior experience with startup companies or new business division launches. • Must possess valid driver's license, valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
