ENGINEER TO SENIOR ENGINEER

This position provides engineering and construction services to implement Capital and O&M projects as assigned by the Manager of East or West Team. The engineer prepares conceptual designs, cost estimates and detailed engineering designs. The incumbent is responsible for specification and procurement of equipment, development and award of construction contracts, A-E management and construction management for projects necessary for the safe, efficient and reliable production of electricity. The engineer typically works as part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, specialists and designers to provide these services.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent will: • Establish and maintain positive relations with vendors, other utilities, power plants, mines and other TXU organizations in order to promote a cooperative working relationship.• Prepare engineering studies, conceptual designs, problem solving, analysis, planning and budget estimates as requested by Operations. Develop data to support economic justification of projects.• Establish cost, schedule and quality objectives for projects. Monitor project resources to meet those objectives and report status.• Prepare detailed engineering designs, equipment specifications and construction bid packages.• Direct the work of services (repair, engineering, maintenance, construction) to achieve a work product that balances quality, costs and schedule.• Provide negotiating skills for resolution of technical and warranty issues associated with projects.• Coordinate with in-house engineering, Equipment Specialists and Operation’s site staff to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions.• Identify and qualify outside resources (repair, engineering, maintenance, construction) for project needs.• Prepare regular, complete and accurate reports, status reports for assignments including schedule and cost reports. Ensure that these reports are properly filed.• Provide evaluation and input in regulatory issues.• Provide check-out and start-up services and turn over completed systems to the plant operating staffs.• Requisition equipment for purchase, perform equipment bid evaluations and recommend award of equipment purchases.• Requisition construction contracts, perform contract bid evaluations and recommend award of construction contracts.• Provide Project and Construction Management services.• When external engineering services are used on assigned projects, direct the architect engineer’s activities.

Qualifications:ASSOCIATE ENGINEER:• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering• Basic knowledge of Power industry and regulatory requirements preferred. • Proficiency in multiple computer software (database, spreadsheet, word processing, and CAD software)ENGINEER - SENIOR ENGINEER:Minimal background and knowledge requirements:Qualifications sought in successful candidates include the following:• A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering• A Professional Engineer license as a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer in Texas (Senior level)• Six years electrical or mechanical experience.Preferred background and knowledge requirements:• The equivalent of two years experience in Project and/or Construction Management.• Six years operational and maintenance experience in a lignite/coal fired steam electric station• Hands-on experience managing typical projects.• Hands-on experience with scheduling software.• Hands-on experience with multi-year budgeting process. Comments:PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:• Frequent long, irregular hours.• Use of a PC, computer terminal and/or telephone over 6 hours a day.• Frequent travel between company facilities and occasional overnight travel.• Frequently works under pressure.• Occasional outdoor activities.• Occasional need to wear a respirator.• Occasional noise levels warrants hearing protection.• Occasionally in the vicinity of high energy equipment, rotating machinery, hot surfaces and heavy equipment.
