Job Summary The Dispatcher, from within a centralized dispatch center, will be responsible for managing routes, scheduling and directing drivers, resolving service issues, and coordinating with other departments to ensure the collections fleet delivers optimal service and profitability. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. * Plan and document routes using information provided by logistics staff, including appropriate tickets/documentation. * Determines daily level of driver staffing to provide best mix of responsiveness and productivity. * Identify and plan deployment for increases/decreases in route volumes, shifting resources in response to seasonal and other fluctuations. * Dispatches drivers to calls as they are received, using information on customer needs, drivers' locations and loads, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response. * Initiate outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site/location, resolving pick-up and other issues. * Field incoming calls from customers or customer service department, managing requests for pick-up or container delivery and ensuring same-day service. * Troubleshoot and resolve potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in service issues. * Ensure same-day service on missed pick-ups by coordinating driver movement in the field. * Manage driver check-in process at the end of the day/shift, including review of route sheets, documentation of sales and service opportunities, identification of safety issues and problem stops. * Record "haul or call" and other service issues using appropriate computer applications. * Record driver productivity information using appropriate computer applications. * Document sales and service issues, distributing information to appropriate departments. * Ensure accuracy and thoroughness of pick-up, container delivery, service, and driver records. * Ensure coordination with other departments, clarifying roles and responsibilities for resolving service issues. * Work with Route Managers, customer service department, and sales department to optimize routes. * Hours are approximately 7:30am - 6:00pm, Monday through Friday (1/2 hour lunch w/approximately 2 hours of OT per day). Supervision Received and Exercised: * Works under limited supervision. Direct the activities of non-exempt employees. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. Education and Experience: Required: High school diploma or G.E.D. and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations. * Must be able to work 7:30am - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday. * Must be able to work a rotational Saturday schedule. * Must have working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. * Must have ability to multitask. Preferred: Associates and/or Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience in transportation, logistics, or similar area of study. * Dispatching experience preferred. * Management and/or supervisory experience preferred. * Bilingual Spanish preferred When you work with an industry leader, you come to expect more.
