Key Responsibilities
Lead the operation of the Pittsburgh office as responsible P&L Department Manager reporting to the Unit Manager. Take responsibility for office financial performance, client satisfaction, staff deployment and development, resource management and office business development activities.
Establishes annual business goals and strategies and prepares annual business plan for the Pittsburgh office.
Directs the office’s marketing program and expands the firm’s business in the geographic area served by the Pittsburgh office.
Serves as a visionary leader for office staff of approximately 6 individuals. Business lines include Environmental and Natural Resources. Key growth area is permitting of energy capital improvement projects.
Provides technical, consulting and project management leadership to office staff and participates as a technical consultant and/or project manager on appropriate projects.
Ensures financial controls, quality assurance/quality control and compliance to AMEC’s policies.
Participates in marketing presentations to key clients.
Fosters team environment, develops staff through mentoring, leadership and training programs, directs office recruitment and staffing needs and coordinates Health & Safety management programs.
Coordinates approval for contracts and commitments of work consistent with Company policy for signing authorities as Department Manager.
Requires individual discipline and knowledge to meet office budgets on a month-to-month basis. Therefore, the leader must be capable of functioning independently on office-specific issues and with minimal management approval.
Work with other Department Managers, Unit Managers and National Account Managers in AMEC to effectively service our clients and grow our business.
Position targeted with the following time commitments:
50% Direct
20% Overhead
15% Bids & Proposals
15% Marketing
Qualifications
BS/MS in Engineering or Environmental Science and Professional Certification desired.
Participation in professional organizations desired.
12-15 + years of experience in project and business management (at least 5 years as Project Manager) and relevant technical discipline (Environmental, Natural Resources, or Civil Engineering). Direct experience in the energy services areas highly desired (permitting of windfarm, natural gas pipeline, alternative energy projects) but not mandatory. Experience with natural resource based projects would be a bonus.
Strong technical experience, strong project management experience and established client relationships.
Managed a profit center in the $1-2 million in annual gross revenue range.
Understands federal, state, commercial and municipal markets with demonstrated skill in marketing and proposal development.
Possesses and demonstrates an enthusiasm to develop client and strategic teaming relationships through regular personal contact.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
