We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Corporate Accountant position at our Aqua America, Inc. headquarters located in Bryn Mawr, PA:



 



GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Responsible for internal and external financial report preparation. Include responsibility for the Financial System and coordination of functions therein.  Responsible for maintaining the books and records of the Corporate Service Company and other non-regulated subsidiaries.  Maintains inter-company billing process for corporate charges. Maintain additional responsibility with respect to financial budgets and other miscellaneous functions; indirect budget responsibility for $57 million of operations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Assist in the overall coordination of Financial Management System including general ledgers, and creates and maintains the accuracy of these financial reports.  These reports are the basis for preparing the Company’s shareholder and SEC reports and a thorough understanding of accounting principles and professional due care is required.  These reports are essential for reporting financial results and trends to assist senior management in determining if financial goals are being met.

 

Prepare monthly financial statements and other miscellaneous financial reports. These may include financial reports for Bondholders, the Public Utility Commission, the Board of Directors, and monthly reports and schedules for Aqua America, Inc.

 

Coordinate all accounting functions for the Corporate Service Company and other non-regulated entities, including, corporate allocations to subsidiary companies and the settlement of these allocations.

 

Develop and implement policies and procedures for general ledger transaction to assure compliance with internal control standards and applicable accounting standards.  Include developing new general ledger accounts and reporting classification as necessary to comply with new accounting standards and other Company needs for information.  This responsibility has a direct impact on the Company’s financial condition due to a requirement by senior management to quarterly certify to the SEC as to the effectiveness of the Company’s Reporting and Disclosure Controls and Procedures.

 

Assist senior financial management in implementation of new accounting practices and procedures. Prepare analysis of impact of new accounting standards, which provide key guidance to management in understanding the effect of the new standard on the financial results.

 

Act as Accounting representative, or back-fill for the Accounting representative, during all technological initiatives as appropriate throughout the Company.



In accordance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and the Audit Committee Charter,  Aqua America, Inc. will not employ any person for the position of Corporate Accountant who was employed by Aqua America, Inc.’s independent accounting firm who participated in any capacity of the audit of Aqua America, Inc during the one (1) year period preceding the date of the initiation of the audit.

 

 

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with minimum of four years experience in financial systems reporting.  A working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and corporate tax concepts is preferred. Include responsibility for the financial system and coordination of functions Maintains inter-company billing and reconciliation process. Coordinate the financial budgeting process for the Corporate allocations.  Must have experience with spreadsheet software and general ledger accounting systems. Review and analyze operating budget variance reports.  Establish and maintain procedures to ensure that corporate costs are fully allocated to subsidiaries in a manner that the allocated costs will be recoverable in future subsidiary rate filings.
