Computer Operations Specialist
OCCUPATION: General/Other: IT/Software Development;Software/System Architecture Build your career here and experience the advantages that come with working at National Grid as a Computer Operations Specialist for our Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) at our Hicksville, NY location. The successful candidate will be required to work 12-hour rotating shifts in this entry-level position. The Computer Operations Specialist will support the continuous and efficient operation of some of our critical operational computer systems. Included amongst these are a SCADA / Energy Management System for monitoring and controlling the Long Island electric system and a Meter Data Collection System for retrieving revenue grade electric meter information. This position involves participating in a shift schedule in order to provide 24 x 7 coverage of computer systems. Its responsibilities include routine support activities such as monitoring performance, performing system back-ups, resolving hardware and software related problems, updating databases, and providing internal customer support. It also involves collaborating with end-users, engineers, and vendors to design, develop, test, and install applications in order to enhance existing systems.The successful candidate will be required to work 12 hour rotating shifts in order to provide 7 day / 24 hour coverage of our computer systems. Candidates who are self-motivated and be able to work independently during shift coverage are preferred. QualificationsRequired: An Associate's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering Technology. Basic software programming skills (i.e. Visual Basic, C/C++, Cold Fusion, Korn shell). Commitment to customer service excellence. Must have strong communication skills with the ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner. Must be able to work well on individual projects as well as in a team environment. Self-learning and a very analytical background are essential pre-requisites.Preferred: Candidates with 1 to 3 years of related experience.
