Compensation/Benefits Analyst

The United Illuminating Company, headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut is an investor-owned regional electric utility that provides service to more than 320,000 customers in the greater New Haven and Bridgeport area. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team in our New Haven facility.

This position is responsible for assisting with the design, development, implementation and administration of compensation/benefits programs. Provides compensation/benefits analysis such as job analysis and competitive market analysis, compensation/benefits planning and administration. Prepares and reviews documents such as job descriptions, summary plan descriptions and program designs. Interprets state and federal laws regulating compensation/benefit practices including FLSA and ERISA. Explains difficult issues and works to establish consensus; works independently to address a range of standard and non-standard situations. Acts as a resource/advisor to HR Generalists, managers, and other colleagues by providing guidance and recommendations on compensation/benefits related issues. Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve processes or services. Interprets internal/external business and regulatory issues and recommends best practices. Takes a new perspective on solving existing solutions; interprets customer and stakeholder needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests. Manages small projects/processes or teams. Monitors and controls costs within own work and may manage and maintain a project budget. May develop the business case for departmental projects/initiatives. May assist with the development and implementation of polices, procedures, practices and programs in other areas of Human Resources. Assists management with the analysis of data, prepares reports and presentations and make recommendations for moderately complex projects. Use spreadsheet, database and statistical software packages to analyze data, spot trends, and develop forecasts.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Human Resources related field and five years of experience in performing Compensation/Benefits analysis. HRIS (Ceridian) experience a plus. Knowledge and experience interpreting FLSA, ERISA strongly preferred. Other requirements include strong quantitative skills with the ability to use spreadsheets or other similar programs, strong written and verbal skills and ability to use MS Office. Must be self-directed and have demonstrated initiative.
