CHEMICAL TECH I THRU MS SENIOR
This position is a multi-skill position with emphasis in the Chemistry Lab area at a Once-Through, Supercritical coal-fired power plant. Collect samples and perform routine and non-routine wet chemistry analyses on various plant process waters. Monitor on-line plant condensate/feedwater parameters and make necessary adjustments or take needed actions to assure the required plant water quality is maintained. Collect and analyze oil samples from various areas of the plant. Collect and analyze Bowl Mill samples. Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair the on-line analyzers to assure quality results are being produced, recorded and monitored. Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair the plant Demineralizer and Polisher systems. Monitor the collection of multiple daily fuel samples and assure proper documentation for analyses and reporting of the results. Monitor the Condenser and Cooling Water System treatment processes and make recommendations for needed adjustments to assure cleanliness and efficiency of these systems. Arrange for and participate in regular inspections of the condenser tubes and the overall condition of the condenser. Monitor condenser air in-leakage and perform leak detection activities to locate and stop condenser leaks. Provide accurate and timely reporting of all the above activities and communicate problems or non-routine issues to the appropriate parties. Assist with unit startups and with the coordination and implementation of special projects. Assist in other areas of the Technical Support group as needed to support plant objectives (Environmental and Instrument & Controls areas). Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolution of problems related to the Chemistry Lab responsibilities.
Job Requirements:
Associates Degree in a science-related field, preferably Chemistry, or 3 years related work experience, preferably in a once-through, supercritical unit. Lignite or coal-fired power plant experience preferred. Expertise in wet chemistry methodology and techniques a must. Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical process equipment a plus…example, pumps/valves/piping/tubing/solenoids/flow meters. Must be computer literate.
This position requires a self-motivated individual, able to work independently with minimal supervision. The fully-trained person will be expected to make sound decisions and be able to act on those decisions based on factual information and/or process knowledge and experience.
Requires occasional long hours in physically-demanding activities (climbing, bending, reaching, lifting) and in adverse environments (hot, cold, wet, dusty, noisy).
Must be capable of climbing ladders and stairs and working at heights above 10 feet.
Must be available for callouts, weekends, holidays and scheduled shift work as needed to support plant operation and reliability.
