Associate System Coordinator

Position Summary:

To support control center functions which include, but are not limited to, controlling SECI's generating units and transmission system so as to provide reliable and economical energy to its member cooperatives while supporting the integrity of Florida's power grid.

 

To assure implementation of load management in accordance with a predetermined strategy, to obtain maximum economic benefits available subject to operating guides and constraints.

 

To plan the operational scheduling of power supply resources in meeting daily forecast loads.

 

To schedule interchange transactions, in coordination with Seminole's marketing agent, to assure optimal use of existing resources and interchange market opportunities.

 

To gain experience and training required to assume the duties and responsibilities of either a System Coordinator or System Operations Scheduler position.  Must develop and maintain a working knowledge of NERC operating policies and guides.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Associate degree in electrical technology or equivalent training and experience.  Two years of relevant experience may be substituted for one year of college.

 

Two years of relevant electrical utility experience is required.

 

Must obtain NERC System Operator (Minimum Level of Level Balance, Interchange and Transmission Operator) within 24 months of employment. Must possess mathematical skills through algebra and a basic knowledge of electric utility operation.  Knowledge of accounting principles, basic electric theory, or high voltage switching and clearance procedures is desirable.  Ability to make reasonable decisions based on limited information during times of extreme stress.  Must be able to carry out complex verbal instructions.  Must be able to quickly react to changing work conditions and be able to communicate problems with such to support personnel.  Proficiency in electronic spreadsheets and a working knowledge of word processing software is desirable.  Must be able to demonstrate such proficiency within six months.

 

Normal office conditions with frequent hands-on work with power system control and monitoring computer systems.  Subject to 24-hour call.  Rotating shift work, with the need to work some holidays, will be required.  Seasonal adjustment of normal working hours may be required.
