Accountant II
Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), the 8th largest water and wastewater utility in the country, provides safe and reliable water, life’s most precious resource, and return clean water to our environment, all in a financially responsible manner.
We are currently seeking for an Accountant II in our Laurel, Maryland office to Maintain general ledger and subsidiary accounts, establishes and set up accounts and systems and prepare financial statements. The successful candidate work involves application of professional accounting principles and practices at an intermediate level of responsibility and coordinate work of Accounting Clerks and an Accountant I.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Coordinates data issues with inventory staff throughout the Commission and supervises monthly reconciliation of materials inventories. Supervises monthly tracking and reconciliation of monthly and quarterly house connection data and preparation of related journal entries. Processes monthly mass allocation overhead entries and evaluates overhead factors. Performs and reviews monthly balance sheet account reconciliations. Reviews and audits developer contract pricing and establishes rates accordingly. Participates in system upgrade testing.
The position requires Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major coursework in accounting or related field. Three years of progressively responsible experience in public or corporate accounting including work with GASB and FASB pronouncements and their application and preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Must have experience in Oracle General Ledger or equivalent GL software and Microsoft Office.
CPA Certificate, graduate coursework in finance, business management, statistics or related field is preferred.
