We are seeking an Accountant II to join the staff at our Wilmington, Delaware location. In this role, you will work in the Disbursements Department, primarily in Payroll. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Performs monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing responsibilities (e.g., prepares journal entries with accurate and complete work papers, accrue and reversal liabilities, tax reporting and compliance).
2. Monitors accruals information to determine appropriateness and accuracy of accounting, capitalization and/or costing.
3. Prepares account balance reconciliations and analysis supported by accurate and complete workpapers.
4. Applies and documents the appropriate accounting treatment on the Company’s business transactions in accordance with GAAP, SEC and FERC Uniform System of Accounts and regulatory bodies.
5. Complies with internal controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404. Monitors and tests controls for SOX Compliance.
6. Responds to data requests and requests for information (for example, rate case filing information, audit requests).
7. Provides accounting, costing and/or reporting support to the lines of business.
8. Communicates, orally and in writing, with various groups including internal customers and team members to perform work functions.
9. Uses PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and email software.
10. Support other department work functions.
Required:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related degree OR the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
· Experience demonstrating skill performing monthly accounting responsibilities (e.g., journal entries, overhead processing, calculating allocation factors, reporting, or account reconciliations).
· Experience demonstrating skill monitoring costs to determine appropriateness and accuracy of accounting, capitalization and/or allocation.
· Experience demonstrating skill analyzing financial statement variances (balance sheet and/or income statement) on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis that are supported by accurate, complete work papers.
· Experience demonstrating skill applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to identify and analyze accounting issues.
· Experience demonstrating skill complying with internal controls (for example, Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404, segregation of duties).
· Experience demonstrating skill preparing and/or supporting the preparation of internal and/or external reporting to SEC, Federal and State agencies (for example, 10Q/10K, FERC Forms 1, 2 & 3Q, detailed workpaper support and flux analyses).
· Experience demonstrating skill communicating financial information, orally and in writing, with others.
· Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software.
· Ability and willingness to work on multiple assignments/projects in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
· Ability and willingness to work independently and recommend potential solutions.
· Ability and willingness to work extended hours on a periodic basis (year-end, quarterly, monthly closing) as required.
· Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations as required.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license.
· Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
Preferred:
· Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Accountant and or Master’s degree in Accounting or Business.
· Experience working in a regulated environment and applying FAS 71, SEC and/or FERC regulations.
· Experience demonstrating skill using an enterprise resource planning system (for example, SAP) and/or scanning software (for example, FileNet).
· Experience demonstrating skill using database and/or presentation software.
